Blocs Wave and Launchpad, improvements please.

I make extensive use of both these apps, and rate them very highly. It's great that the develops regularly update, and are slowly adding more inventive sample packs and features. But, a couple things could do with fixing sooner rather than later.

Launchpad

Could we please have a master off button, like in Blocs Wave?

Also, a way to save active combinations would very useful. I know we can do this in AudioBus via state saving, but that doesn't let us switch patterns or sample packs on-the-fly, which is what I'd love to do.

Could we also have an easy access between Launchpad and Blocs Wave samples? That would be super useful.

Blocs Wave

My number one request is to be able to alter key in a saved slot, without it changing all the slots. Being able to do that would bring a whole new dimension to the app.

Hot on the heels of that, is what your rivals at RemixLive already offer, the ability to reverse samples.

I would happily pay for the above, as IAP's. So, if you are listening, Novation, what are the chances?

Comments

  • Separate live outputs for both apps would make them so useful live with AUM

I'm all about your idea of easy sample sharing. I wish they were one app really. Or if you could directly import blocs into launchPad for its effects.

Searching the forum, I see this topic was hot before I joined. Novation were active here and seemed keen to adopt what ideas were practical. Others have requested sample sharing between the two apps, so let's hope that is part of a future update, or as an IAP.

  • I'm sure among the phone books (remember them?) of info and requests here this has already been mentioned, but I would really like the ability to mark particular loops as favorites...

  • good stuff. cc/ @Launchpadforios fyi

Double good stuff for any sort of 'because we can' inter-app integrations between Novation apps. Shared file system one day ala AUM+Audioshare? Quick jumps at least.

  • Novation seem to have gone rather quiet. Are they on their summer holls, or still beavering away in the digital mines?

Sample packs for Blocs Wave and Launchpad are still appearing, so let's hope to major work is underway involving a shared file system, reversible loops, and the other good stuff requested.

  • Hey @Nkersov . We are indeed still here, give or take a few members of the team taking a well deserved holiday. In fact, we're busy working away on a few things request on here, so bear with us, we won't disappoint.

Excellent. This is the vital difference between Novation, and some other hardware based developers; you guys listen to your customers, and deliver!

I've got gigs and gigs of loops stored in AudioShare. I am wondering if your app supports any compressed formats. I could batch process my loops and cut my storage usage in half if so...

  • I'd gladly pay £€$¥ for an IAP "User folder" system like blocs wave has for their own loops... I like organisation, now it's a mess...

  • I wonder if a mix view, perhaps with an IAA/AB send or two, is on the roadmap?

I've posted here and on the iPad Musician's Facebook group, and in other threads that Novation team frequents, but I can never get an answer to this question from anyone. Does anyone know the answer to this?

  • I'm running out of space on my 64 GB device!

Does anyone know the answer? I'll be happy for an answer from anyone, if it gives me the information I need!!

  • @Audiojunkie
I just tried an MP3 with launchpad, get message saying WAV or AIFF files only
Same MP3 with blocs wave and I get message saying WAV, AIFF or M4A files only

    Does that help?

  • Cool! Thanks @AndyPlankton !! Do you know if AIFF or M4A format is compressible? It would be really great if I could cut my size in half while keeping 90% quality!!

  • OK, I've done some research...

Audio-only MPEG-4 files generally have a .m4a extension. This is especially true of non-protected content. M4A (audio only) is often compressed using AAC encoding (lossy), but can also be in Apple Lossless format.

This would mean that, in theory, I would batch convert my libraries to M4A Apple Lossless format, and greatly reduce my library size and still keep quality at 100%!!! This would be awesome!!!

@AndyPlankton Do you have any M4A formatted audio files that you could try in Blocs Wav to see if they work?

  • I just found a free batch converter for libraries that even keeps the file structure!! WAV to M4A and more!!

    https://www.freac.org/

  • Everyone needs more space on their devices!!

  • OK, I've been fighting and fighting with converters and the M4A format. I've tried Apple Lossless as well. I've even tried the converter in AudioShare. None of these things work, and I get the same error message, saying WAV AIFF or M4A files only. I now believe that either a very specific setting has to be done for M4A, or that M4A is not implemented yet. I wish the developers would respond...... :-(

  • I would like it if you could join up selected flattened sounds back into the main screen to make another long one- this time it would contain only your approved sounds and you could get back to doing your normal blocs wave thing with them- but probably with a greater success rate with less hunting around for the good stuff.

Nice box, man. Hope you get better accommodation soon. :#

  • @Nserkov I've attempted to come up with a way to notate which sample button or buttons I want to use in order, one idea being a series of screen shots ('chart') of the UI with the buttons activated that I want at any given time, but then I run into the problem of designating WHEN to set up that next 'chart' - not to mention how I could utilize such a 'chart' WHILE actually using Launchpad.

Ideally I'd like to see something like a 'sequencer' in Launchpad to activate what combo of buttons I want to use in order and then just play that back, instead of having to practice button-pushing runs (sure, I can record each button's track via AB & put it all together in GB or what-not, but that would suck).

  • @Brain. Yes, a sequencer element would be brilliant. Especially if it let us change key within a composition.

Also, both Blocs Wave & Launchpad could really do with more versatile ways to save work, and crucially, the ability to export those settings to backup. I recently lost several hours work via an accidental delete.

  • A few thoughts since been playing with BlocsWave for a couple of weeks. @Launchpadforios Super great app and very fun. Also thank you for all your hard work thus far.

    1. An overdub Option
    2. The ability to resample itself as in flatten several loops together or have the ability to choose the main output or selected loops in Blocs Wave as the input of the record option.
    3. Adjustable Slice sizes and even a zero size option similar to Samplr to where it responds to where our finger is.
    4. More fluid transition between sections. It seems they just jump instant right now so having options to allow sections to jump on bar, beat, 1/4, 1/8 or instant would be nice.
    5. Maybe the ability to bring in loops muted by a long press on the loop or something.
  • We need the M4A import bug fixed. The app claims to support it, but it doesn't.

    Liking that idea, a lot.

  • I thought some of you might find this exchange with the Blocs Wave team interesting:

The bug that I've mentioned above about broken M4A support has been recognized and fixed!!
