Cubase Artist 8.5
Any one on here use Cubase Artist on the PC?
I'm looking for recommendations that will influence the decision for the finger to hit the buy button and to validate the reasoning to my wife! :-)

On a PC? Yep for AFAIK Cubase 8.5 has problems with the last OSX. But why don't you give a try to Reaper, before? Then get a copy of Computer Music magazine, and feed your DAW with a ton of VST for free.
Well, you can download the trial version of Cubase Elements. It does not have all the features of Cubase Artist (i.e. only 3 instruments out of 8) but... there's nothing better than trying it yourself
yes, you could check the trial version first ('runs for 30 days without any limitations')
I own the Pro version and am very pleased with it (though still learning, a little bit more every day)
.. oh, I see, the trial version seems to be Elements, but for trying ok I think
I've got Artist. It's great, but I prefer Ableton Lives work flow. It's easier to work with But, if you want it, try & get the Pro version for a little more. But alternately, get Fl Studio 12.2. It has a lifetime of updates that you dont pay for. Once you own FL studio, that's it you pay for, all updates, & versions are free. Once you get used to the work flow, that is a great piece of software too. If you have 32, or 64 bit VST, they play together well. Where as Ableton, you have to bridge the 32 bit VST on a 64 Bit DAW. With Stienberg, you don't pay for maintebce updates, but you do on major ones. My advice get FL Studio. Or even better trial all of them that suites you best......... Oh, not forgetting Propllerheads Reason 9.
They have a deal on for upgrades arm. Maybe worth seeing if you have a free version of it laying around that came with some bit of hardware.
I assume it's a PC (if it's a Mac, by all means go for Logic Pro X!), and feature-wise, on Windows, Cubase Pro is the DAW to rule it all. Don't know much about the Artist version.
Well, if you definitely do not like Reaper, and will bear a hard time with your missus, FL Studio (the $289 version) may suit you better. No dongle, tons of tutorials and presets, super tested to run well on Win. I'd advise for Reason 9, that is a very good DAW, but it's a closed garden, with no VST allowed. Next buy (when family waters are quiet), look for a MIDI kb with Ableton Live Light in bundle (M-Audio series , e.g.). It's not to compare with the full Live, but, together with your main DAW, it's useful.
Gadget comes with live light doesn't it?
But you can use Reason in FL Studio via Rewire.......
>
Agreed. Cubasis works for me on IOS, but the Mac version is rather poor. Logic Pro X is mind boggling.
He said PC in his original post. Ofc no match for Logic on Mac.
True, I use it in Live. Not the same thing as using VST in Reason, correct?
Correct. But I think you can also use FL Studio simular as Reason, via ReWire(FL Studio version) as a VST Into another DAW I think?....... All DAWs have Pros & Cons really. It's really down to the individual, & what he, or she thinks best is for them......... I just found Ableton Live the best for me, as I found it easier to create my ideas, whereas FL, Steinberg, held me back a little in getting out the music from Brain to Software. Ableton is easy, Drag, Drop, Wham, Bam!...... All samples/midi/FX done. FL Studio was 2nd easiest......... Cubase Artist....... Well, t
Let's just say, great software, but it slows the creative juices down a lot............. But saying, maybe easier if I had a Windows Surface?...... The reason, I'm saying that, is because Cubasis is a lot easier to use, than say Auria Pro. So my IOS music is mainly done with Cubasis, then Mastered in Auria Pro, with maybe a little added tweak here and there.
Cubase Artist 8, then to upgrade to 8.5 is £50. To upgrade to Pro, it's £199, & there's 40% off deal going on at the moment. Now m not sure if that's the price now with the 40% off, miso it maybe more when the sale is off........ Please don't quote me on that one.
Got to be Cubase on the PC as I intend to doodle primarily with Cubasis on the IPad so need compatibility. You have mentioned other software I have vague recollections of from when they were first released years ago. I will have to start looking at these other options to see how they would perform on my lap top.
If the opportunity arises where I get my sons Mac book, Logic would be a no brainer to get as I was completely blown away at how good that is on that machine!
Thanks for all the input, much appreciated! :-)
Ok. Understand. Then I would put my money into Cubase Pro, then you'll have everything. Whereas Artist has around 3/4 of everything. Also you'll need to buy the dongle, if you buy online from a music shop. Once your details on your purchase are on the dongle, you can use you key on another computer. It's like your driving license
Enjoy.
