Utility Exposed or Am I the Last to Know?

I have not been able to keep up with all the latest in the iOS music world lately, and I seem to have missed something basic. When I open Funk Drummer and then open DM1 to try to sync them with MIDI, I see "MidiMonitor Source" in the list of available connections. Is this something that is part of the Funk Drummer/Rock Drummer line of apps or is it something in iOS?

I've done the requisite Google-ing to no avail. I would love it if there is some utility that would simply display MIDI mapping and messages, because even in 2016 I find MIDI on iOS is still like searching for Pokemons. I have purchased a MIDI mapping utility or 2, but have not had a lot of success in actually verifying MIDI connections. Maybe in the world of everything being Ableton Linked MIDI no longer matters...

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

  • There's an app called midi wrench that I use occasionally for monitoring

  • Do you own an app called MidiMonitor? Sounds like that's either running or FD is one of those apps (like MIDI Wrench, actually) that remembers every connection that was ever available.

  • Ah, yes I do have an app called MidiMonitor, but since it was not running, I was confused by it being in the list of connections. I had been attempting to see if there was MIDI coming out of FD that was routable to other apps. And I'll check out MIDI Wrench.

    Thanks!

  • Maybe either Link to MIDI or MIDI Link Sync apps might do the trick?
