Great news. Thanks for the info.
Just one question for the dev: hardware required to run it properly.
Glad the new version will be universal as this app is one of the few that I use on iPhone regularly to capture and sequence samples on the go.
@KarlBolasol
Super great news to hear this. Like the already implemented features, especially the bit crusher sounds nice! Also good to hear that Ableton LINK is easy. Assume that dedicated old users (as myself
just get a free update from old version to 3.0. Also I think, as you suggest, it's a very good/ clever idea to put the option of four sequencers as an IAP feature. It's like the Korg iDS10 where the IAP doubles the number of synthesizers (from 2 to 4) and Voice Synths (from 1 to 2). Would a no brainer IAP for me and is also good for orginal dedicated users to give some extra financial support
Very cool set of updates!

When you say distributing sample packs, does that mean you'll be able to export separate wav files for each step?
In case you need a use case that isn't a 5 minute long sample of ambient noise from a café... ;-)
I'm a drummer and often sample my self hitting things around the house. I noticed last night that the sample length was so short I couldn't sample really short rudiments that are probably like a second in duration. Just extending sample length to 1 or 2 seconds would open up the sonic possibilities of Werkbench so much. I can see how this would spin out of control and I'm sure there are folks who would want to load even longer sounds. My own two cents for what it's worth - IMO Werkbench excels at sequencing short percussive sounds and that there are a lot of existing apps that excel at sequencing longer samples (like 1 bar loops).
As it stands, the file format is really just a zip of WAVs along with an XML file describing the values for each of the sound parameters. You will be able to unzip a .WERK file to get the original raw recordings (i.e. unaffected by the numerous parameters that might be modifying their sound within Werkbench).
What I meant by 'distributing sample packs' is that nothing would be stopping an enterprising sound designer from selling/sharing loops in .WERK format. I hope it happens!
longer sample times and independent rates for the 2/4 sequencers would be super.
@KarlBolasol
Any indication when new version of WerkBench is coming? Showed 2 musicians Werkbench that were very enthousiast! They probably would buy, but I told a new update is imminent (maybe too optimistic?) and couldn't tell if the update was free. Would be frustrating if they bought it and the other day, new version and no free update, so they have to buy the newer version also. So 'm curious about update policy and of course when we can see the new version? Thanks!
Noticed that WB on iPhone isn't on the bus or iaa. Wanted to let @KarlBolasol know there's still a lot of love for Werkbench. Here's hoping the update is still in the works.
The promised update of this app is really what I really want most. Seriously werkbench is for me of more value than Gadget 3 or BM3. I hope the update is coming soon!
Werkbench is the bomb--would pay for an update!
Exciting!
Just so folks don't get hopes up too high, I necro bumped. Announcement of update was last fall.
This is one of those things I have made a pact with myself to invest nothing in emotionally because it surely won't happen but secretly I expect to wake up one random morning to great news. A bit like most of my life really.
I believe these are called coping mechanisms and I apply them to Samplr and Loopy Masterpiece as well.
Happy to see any app go universal!
Are you informing us of your uncertainty in regards to the availability of werkbench for iPhone? :P
Workbench for iphone was last updated 2012.
Interestingly enough DM1 can work like WerkBench. Just figured out that dm1 samples.
It does?
In dm1...
*Under kit pull down menu tap "create new kit"
*In the box that pops up you choose where the sample comes for each track. Choose "microphone" and a little recorder box pops up
*After you've recorded a sound a little box pops up where you can trim the sample
Absolutely Incredible. The guy is a genius!
Agreed, werkbench is fun. Seems to be updated infrequently and having it on iphone would be great, it would be a fantastic companion to koala, which does similar things but with a very different workflow.
Oh yeah. Great track. Fantastic workflow.
I recall working with Werkbench in a manner like this using Amy Lee's sBassDrum as soundsource.
Got better results than a lot of daw mangling
