Syncing across multiple iOS devices
There are a few clunky ways to do this, but I'd like to hear how you folks are doing this. More specifically, I'd love to have Audioshare sync'd across my devices.

I've been a long time user of iFiles which recently got an update (iFiles 2) it can now serve as a SMB-Server which makes transferring files & folders between devices pretty easy. The SMB service announces it self over bonjour which makes it automatically appear in the finder on macOS and the explorer windows too if bonjour services are enabled.
The 'wifi-sharing' made a comeback in yesterdays update...
The app also has built in web-browser for downloading files and and can also act as an iOS Fileprovider.
It's nice to see Documents 5 and FileHub get some well-deserved competition
The developer(Tom Biel) is very open to suggestions as he want's iFiles to be the best file-manager on iOS.
As far as i know syncing files/folders over SMB is on the to-do list.
Personally I'd love to see inclusion of Sandisk iXpand SDK but that's wishful thinking for now.
http://www.ifilesapp.com
The app is not 'free'($4.99) but well worth it in my opinion...
@Samu: Really? I'm gonna look into this. You mean there's something at least partially resembling some sort of filing system on iOS ? News and music to my ears.. Thanks for that and also for all your informed comments on this forum.
There are still some issues when accessing smb shares with extreme file structures and lots of subfolders.
The devloper is aware of this and is working on a fix...
FileHub manages to browse these directories without issues so the problem lies in the smb implementation of iFiles 2.
But for now FileHub lacks both integrated web-rowser for downloads and iOS-Fileprovider support...
I've had issues in the distant past (pre dating iOS) with mixes of Mac and Linux filesharing where the path+file names added up to too many characters. And of course, there’s the usual nonsense with what one OS considers acceptable characters and the other doesn’t, and so on.
Yeah, these filenames are 'clean' and modern SMB implementations take care of the name-conversions when needed. Synology has quite good reputation when it comes to file-sharing
I have too many stories about 'issues' with filenames dating back to Novel Netware and Mac people playing jokes with Windows people by putting a . at the end of a filename or using / for date-notations etc.
It is a 'bug' in iFiles 2 since all other iOS SMB Browser apps manage to access the files without problems.
It doesn't matter where the files are served (Mac, Linux, Windows) as it's the phrasing of files&folders that fails due to too many entries.
Considering the robust support iFiles had back in the days I trust Tom will do equally good job with iFiles 2
What is this SMB of which you speak?
Me too. I have ideas scattered across 2 iPads and 2 iPod Touches.
Thanks @Samu. I thought I bought iFiles before, so I'm guessing iFiles2 is a separate app. Do you have any experience with Goodreader? If so, does that offer SMB services as well? I know I can connect to SMB, AFP, etc., but I don't see where it can serve as a server.
@BiancaNeve - these are file sharing protocols for networked devices.
iFiles 2 is the only one i know of for now that can also be a SMB server.
Most other apps (Documents 5, FileHub to name a few) have SMB-browse/read/write capabilities.
What sets iFiles 2 apart here that it also serves as an iOS-Fileprovider meaning all apps that can use iCloudDrive/Document picker can access it which is something i like a lot
The 'Media Player' in FileHub is still better with broader file-format suppor(flac, subtitles and almost anything you can throw at it) and robust streaming from network-servers for the paid version.
iFiles 2 is a 'new' app from the same iFiles developer.
Considering how much of a re-write the new app is it's only fair to charge for it again in my opinion.
The 'old' iFiles was also updated for iOS9 compatibility around the same time as iFiles 2 was released.
I'm still a bit torn between iFiles 2 and FileHub both are really nice apps.
For 'media consumption' FileHub is better but for pure file management downloading and sharing iFiles 2 is the better choise. I have both...
Thanks for the clarification @Samu. The SMB server and Fileprovider sold me. I don't have as much a need for Filehub at this point, but it's good to know there's a solution if needed.
Feel free to send any suggestions for improvments to the developer so we can make iFiles 2 even better
It has a built-in voice-memo function with very limited editing capabilities and I guess at this point it's too much to ask for improved audio/video editing using the standard iOS/CoreAudio/QuickTime features...
Once the SMB issues with extreme file-structures are fixed i can safely remove FileHub
Will do...thanks again @Samu!
I sent an email asking the dev the simplest way to transfer files from ifiles to ifiles2. Never got a response.
Try again as he's just recently gotten back to 'action'.
Do you have many files in iFiles?
(I transferred my files to my laptop and then back to iFiles 2. DropBox works too).
Documents by Readdle supports automatic folder sync with Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. It's a great way to sync files across your computers and mobile devices. And it's free
Yup, lots of little tiny bits and pieces
I went with iFiles and quite impressed. I'm able to share files across my iOS devices through the LAN, so no cloud service in the middle. Very fast! Thanks for the recommendation @Samu!
I am seeing problems with nested folders, but that's fairly easy to work around.
Hope you forward the issues you find to the developer
He's planning to add some kind of audio-editor/converter too...
Will do, but so far the only issue I've seen is with the nested folders.
It's interesting that iFiles 2 price dropped overnight to $2.99 US. iOS 9 is a requirement though.

Not so interesting when I paid twice that amount for it yesterday, but it is worth what I paid.
I think the developer is testing the grounds. He was quite 'unpleased' with the copycats that use the same/similar app name and in some cases screenshots from his old iFiles app. I will not mention what countries the 'other' apps come from to avoid disputes...
Apple has definitely slipped in AppStore Quality Control department just shorten the approval time.
I paid full price too and don't regret it at all.
I can imagine the countries involved. @Samu - is there a way to sync all the accounts on iFiles 2 without having to manually enter in the credentials on each one?
Don't know actually. I only use DropBox, Google Drive and my Synology NAS so it's not a major hassle
Send a suggestion. I guess iCloud could be used to sync the account-information between devices.
I'll do that. Thanks.
i like filebrowser.
It even lets you put shortcuts to remote folders on your desktop! i have one that hits my home sample library sitting on another server.
It seems to be a pretty solid app. Does it also have integrated 'Web-Browser' for downloading files?
(Could not see this mentioned at their web-site).
The 'share with apps' feature shares selected documents using iOS-Fileprovider which is a nice touch.
I tested their AppleTV app but it was bad beyond belief as it was not able to connect to any of my networked devices! File browser may be better but the initial try with AppleTV put a sour taste in my mouth...
I've used FileBrowser extensively, both professionally and personally. It's a good solid app, and my go-to for all file management tasks. However, no, I don't believe it has a built-in web server for downloading files. That would be killer, and iFiles 2 having it peaks my interest.
FileBrowser seems to be updated on fairly regular basis too. Maybe it's worth sending an e-mail asking for a built-in browser for downloads?? (It's already able to play media from URLs?).
Well...I bought Ifiles 2, but it seems it does not solve my problem...
I would like to have an access thru Audio Share to a shared folder thru my Airport Extreme and his USB disk connected...
I would like to have all my sample database here...
I see FilebrowserLite and Fileexplorer are other apps that connects to Time machine (I can see my hard drive) but how to connect that to Audio Share ?
In what ifiles2 is a smarter (or not) solution for doing that ?
Thanks a lot for your help
