Remixlive 2.0 for iOS - new update!

Hey all,

As I guess some of you have already noticed, we just released (yesterday actually) a new update for our Remixlive app. The version is 2.0, and it's available right now on the App Store as both an iPhone/iPad download, like previously.

The main new feature is the redone design, moving away from single-color cyan pads and into bold, brash and brightly bombastic new hues (sixteen of them in fact) that you can arrange to your heart's content.

Allow me to put on my PR hat to list you all of the new features below:

Colored Pads
Pads are now color-coded for better legibility:

  • Change the color of each pad separately.
  • Choose between 16 easily readable colors, with two shades for each color, including: orange,
yellow, pink, red, purple, blue, cyan and green.

New Mixer view
Get more control over your mix with the redesigned and expanded Mixer view, now including:

  • Mute and Solo buttons on each individual mixer channel.
  • Professional-sounding three-band EQ on each channel (iPad only).
It’s now easier than ever to refine your mix and make your tracks sound the way you want them to.

Direct access to the sample collection
Enjoy a quicker access to the sample collection thanks to a new 5th view solely dedicated to sample management. In this new view you can:

  • Replace a sample in the grid faster than ever.
  • Search all samples or browse samples by category: Packs, Loops, Sounds or User.
  • Manage your samples including names and metadata, like instrument, key and BPM info

HQ Track Recording
Record your tracks in higher quality AIFF format. This allows users to record tracks in a much higher quality format in order to listen on a high quality Hi-Fi system (or for burning tracks to CD), and to use as masters for professional studio mastering, for example.

Import sample packs
Import packs bought in Remixlive for Mac directly into Remixlive for iOS. No need to buy the packs twice. Plus, you can also import your own packs made in Remixlive for Mac. This is helpful for easier sample management and organization on your Mac: perfect for live set preparation and for making different versions of your sample packs.

[/PR hat off]

I know that this does not include State Saving under Audiobus (just in case you were wondering, no we haven't forgotten about that) nor does it include AudioShare/AudioCopy/Drop Box (we haven't forgotten about that either). This is a design update first and foremost, as we felt that we had to make the app look and feel more distinctive.

Feel free to comment or give us feedback below, as usual, I read everything!

Cheers,
Alex @Mixvibes

  • It would be nice if this would integrate with my Launchpad MkII and that the pads on that would light up and match the colours of the in app pads.

  • Loving it!!!

  • New design looks great. Congrats on it.

Does this have multiple audio outputs?

    [edit]

The answer is no in case anyone is wondering. Evidently iOS is in a post multi track era.

  • Just brought the iTunes add on hope I won't get charged again for audioshare audio copy once that hits in a update as prefer that method to connecting up to a computer to input samples. What are the max sample lengths by the way ?

it does have panning so you're ahead of the game

  • Said this in other thread but sample edit zoom ala Beatmaker 2 would help as it's currently unusable for me.

  • no offense @kobamoto but panning doesn't make my heart flutter as much as yours :-)

Doctor K and I will be at the as yet unscheduled National Panning Convention. We will save you a seat on either the left or the right of us.

These are really the main things now holding the app back, so I look forward to an update that adds this vital functionality. Then is could be 'game on' between RemixLive and Novation Launchpad.

    Ha

  • Seeing this aop is itunes input only for now for adding samples in with the iap. Are there any apps out there that let you copy and paste into your itunes library from the the ipad without having to connect to a computer for file sharing?

  • Hi guys,

@syrupcore, you're more professional than me, I even forgot to put the link up there! Clearly I'm doing a bang-up job.

@Jumpercollins it does seem likely that if we expand on the import feature to include other such services we'd probably keep it in the same IAP as the current one. I'll try to make sure that we do, at least.

@AndyPlankton well I guess you could technically do that with the Mac version of Remixlive. Not sure how you'd go about for the colors though.

@gjcyrus yep, still very much on the list. This is actually something that I've heard discussed very early on. I have no idea where it is in development though but I can ask!

@kobamoto, @JohnnyGoodyear, I hear Christian Doppler's great-great-grandson in law is holding a conference this year, and apparently Holger Czukay has a panel explaining how Can used binaural recording in their late 1970s albums. This is gonna be great!

    Cheers,

  • To celebrate the release of the new 2.0 version we had a little performance video made by Arkaei (aka. Ray, one of the writers over at the oft-excellent DJ WORX site). Here it is:

He decided to remix a track made by a friend of his, cut all the loops and arranged them in Remixlive across two devices (an iPad for all the rhythmic and melodic elements, and an iPhone for all the sound effects and vocal cues), synced using Ableton Link, and the result is pure atmospheric drum n'bass goodness (if you've ever stumbled on a Good Looking Records or Hospital Records production from the late nineties, you'll be in familiar territory with this).

We made this especially to show how it's possible also to use Remixlive in a production context, and Ray made it work beautifully. We're very happy with the result and I thought some of you would probably enjoy it so I'm posting it here.

Cheers and have a nice, sunny weekend!

  • @Remixlive I beg you please add midi learn and external midi support to both remixlive and CrossDj. It's literally the only thing keeping me from using either app. Hell. Charge me via an IAP if that's what it will take. But please PLEASE add midi....

    Hi all,

Just added a new tutorial on how to import/export sample packs in the Mac version:

Not entirely related but this does contain a segment on how to export packs from Remixlive Mac into Remixlive iOS. inb4 someone asks about exporting packs from the iOS version. It's coming, don't worry. We'll make a tutorial about it when it's out!

@gonekrazy3000 : this is already on the feature request list. I have no idea how advanced we are on it but I can check if you like :)

    Cheers,
    Alex @Mixvibes

Sweet. looking forward to it :)

  • Can you record loops from an audio interface?

  • @Tritonman : any iOS-compatible sound card will work with the "Unlimited pad recording" feature, however I don't believe that we have external MIDI clock sync, as such it might be hard to record loops. Not impossible mind you, but that's also why when we talk about that feature we focus on vocals and live instruments. But if that's what you're looking for, then yes you can record from a sound card.

  • when is this coming to iOS?

  • Interesting that they are choosing to prioritize Android--probably not a bad idea given the market size and the crowd that has developed in this space on iOS.

  • well they should be ahead on iOS just cause they started on iOS if I'm not mistaken so I'm waiting for the Dev to respond in this thread or for the other shoe to drop and for them to announce the iOS version

Hello, as you may know Remixlive runs on four OS. The next release schedule is iOS in a couple of weeks.

  • Hi all,

As you've probably seen, we've just released a new version of Remixlive for Android that now features a new finger drumming mode. You can see a video of it in action below :

We felt it didn't warrant a new topic on here since for now it is Android only, but as you can imagine we are working on a similar update (or rather, upgrade) for the iOS version.

We'll of course post an official news when the iOS version is released, this is just a taster !

    Cheers,
    Alex @Mixvibes

  • Hey all,

As mentioned, we are working on a new iOS version of Remixlive. You can already sign up for the beta at this link!

    Cheers,

  • On the one side, it's your app and you are free to do whatever you think fit. On the other side, the single feature that would be most useful - because it allows users to retain their settings - is always at the back of the queue. :'(

  • Hi @Mixvibes ,
It seems Remixlive 3 is getting major enhancements. :)
Midi in would be welcomed from all iOS users having an external midi controller.
Also Android has better file management than iOS , so implementing AudioShare or a way to import samples is more than a feature request. Many iOS users don't use a computer at all !
About state saving : It's all about using RemixLive as standalone or with other apps inside Audiobus.

Some questions about the recording :
Is there an option to start recording above a certain level and on certain bpm length ?
After the recording are there any basic editing features?
