Recording midi on iPhone recommendations please

I got a nice Guitarism track going but wanted to capture the midi performance. I thought about gadget but how would I export it to drive another app with the midi track or is there a better option?
Thanks !

  • Feel like you've asked this before. Maybe search "iphone midi"?

  • Thanks will do.

  • Did search and nothing came up except my inf looper midi questions. Maybe that's why you thought I've asked before. Anyway, any ideas appreciated.

  • Gadget will work well for you. You can export the MIDI from Gadget into iTunes or Dropbox, then import it from there. You get one nice clean MIDI file for each track. I just exported a fairly long song with 5 tracks, then imported the resulting files into Auria Pro in a couple minutes. Worked great.

  • Oh ... and your best bet for getting Gadget to start when you want it to for recording the MIDI is to load both apps into AudioBus, and use AB's global start button. Gadget doesn't respond to IAA play from apps like AUM, but it does for AB's transport.

  • Awesome!!!!! Exactly what I was looking for. So if o export the midi it should work with Beatmaker right? I don't have Cubasis on my phone.

I save my midi files to Audioshare then use the open in to import them into any app that accepts midi files.

I don't own Beatmaker, but if it can import MIDI files then yes. If it doesn't have Dropbox integration then you'll need to import to AudioShare from Dropbox or use whatever way works for Beatmaker. Unfortunately Gadget's only MIDI export options are iTunes and Dropbox, no AudioShare.

That'd be a pretty good trick if you did! B)

  • Just did my first run with Guitarism sending midi guitar data, Bass, chord all in realtime and in one pass to Gadget midi tracks!! I have two tracks playing Gladstone and it makes it sound huge !

The chord data coming from Guitarism can be sent to several tracks with Darwin as the sound generating gadget! This is awesome!!!

Will try to do a really short sound demo.

  • I'm really thinking of getting the Bass gadget now although I found some nice bass sounds in Darwin.

You will not regret it if you do. It's by far the easiest way to get a decently real sounding bass track I've ever found. (other than when I occasionally get lucky and play something that doesn't suck too bad on the real thing)
