Yamaha Controller for IOS

https://www.gearnews.com/yamaha-reboot-mx-synthesizer-black-blue/
Never mind the FM essentials app.. In so many way, this 49 key model is a killer controller for iOS .. Hopefully they'll come out w an editor and finally get the bugs out of Mobile Music Sequencer.. The 1,100 arps transmit via midi also.. Not battery operated but a a 23,000 ma battery pack for it is a hundred bucks on Amazon..Tofally class compliant .

  • Yeah, that was my impression about the 'refreshed' MX line too :)

Class Compliance is nice. One minor omission is that the audio that comes thru the AUX-Input isn't 'sampled' thus doesn't get mixed into the signal that is sent over USB. If it did that it would have been the 'perfect' Audio-Interface for iOS devices as it would have allowed us to hook external gear thru the AUX-Input and record it...

  • Samu: The USB transmits Audio and midi BI-Directrionally . To AND from host.. If you'd like I could find a video that states this. As always, you're one of the first names I look for in a thread.. Thanks for all you do on here.

Oh yeah, wait... I just re-read.. Yes, you are correct.. Ahh,, nothing's perfect.. I guess that would be a matter of getting a hub..
So handy though in so many ways.. Killing piano sound , great effects and just for the arpeggiator alone to transmit via midi.. You could hook up "Thor " to it and have it do guitar strums. Perfect size for Starbucks too. Also it comes w Cubase Ai for iPad. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked as a control surface for Cubasis in the way that it so perfectly does for Cubase now.

  • If I was just getting into iOS music-making and had an iPad I would seriously consider the new MX...
iOS needs also to be able to handle multiple audio-devices at the same time which it doesn't do today.
(meaning a 'hub' with, MX, iRig Mic HD as an example).

  • No aftertouch. But a lot to offer for the price.

  • Yeah, I play piano so it's also a good mobile keyboard to practice.. I'm picking it up tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback, Samu.. Much appreciated..

Lucky you! No MX49/Version 2's available here in Sweden yet...
A shot 'review' would be much appreciated from an iOS perspective :)

Notation X-Stations do this. The two inputs can even be operated independently.

Hmm..thanks for that I do.. No onboard piano source though..I need that.. I have plenty of pianos on my iPad but it's nice to have one built in .. No latency

  • I had an mx61, which claimed to be an interface for iOS, but Yamaha did not update the firmware to keep compatibility with iOS 9. It was a perfect interface for my Mac using mainstage.
