Opinions on Sugarbytes Effectrix?

I'm thinking of buying this- I know it's had it's problems in the past. Is it all fully functional and up to scratch these days? It doesn't seem to be mentioned that often. Any thoughts on it?
Cheers

  • no problems for me, 10/10 but of course turnado is more fun.

    Add me on.

  • iOS Effectrix is so good that it makes me want the OS X version. Another Yes vote here.

It made me do that very thing. No complains, except that their VST Xmas sale comes but once a year.

  • I wish they added link to the iOS version. Would pretty much
Make it perfect. Getting it to sync via midi is an absolute pain
    when usin AUM+Modstep.....

  • Yeah I like it a lot but midi sync can require an extra app. Great for when you want repeating glitchiness

  • I use it off and on in Cubasis and Modstep, nice and easy, very fun.

  • It's awesome, but I'd wait for a sale...

Needs Ablink to become a fully operational battlestation.

Yes-- I hit em hard a couple sales ago and indulge inbetween as well.
SugarBytes are truly special: One of the teams it always feels good to support.

  • It's an intriguing effect, it explores the depth the ipad has as a deep effects pedal.

You mostly need the midi sync to get it to do cool, intentional stuff with your other sequencers, synths, and drum machines, which can be a little flakey staying running while you flip back and forth between apps, or if the screen goes to sleep. This would be a great candidate for Ableton Link.

  • Works very well here. I actually use it in a static mode with 4 effects permanently on and physical knob mapped out but comes to its own when used properly.

Contrary to popular belief the quality of the effects isn't that bad at all. I'm using only 4 fx of the bunch to preserve RAM (I might be kidding myself here) as it is part of a very intensive one iPad config. I absolutely love the sound of crush and the rest of the effects are ok too.

If you don't expect reverb sounding like other dedicated units and like dynamic effects this one's for you.

  • Thanks folks, you can drop say a four beat sample in and have it loop in sync with the effects- is that right?

  • I emailed them: They are working on Link implementation, but it may last a while...

That's the point of the app, and by the way, I prefer effectrix to turnado, because you can sequence the effects "on/off" and also the parameters inside it, whereas you need Auria or modstep to sequence turnado, and wow2 is my bass and guitar effet of choice (distortion, envelope filter, weird dubsteppy wubs and sample/hold) ;)

Also all the sugar bytes apps have perfect iaa sync and start inside AUM, so, I'm not that desperate for link, although it would be an awesome addition

  • Basically the Sugarbytes bundle is the most funnest app bundle in the appstore.

Great - thanks- I am now about to visit the App Store to purchase in confidence

for the life of me i cannot get effectrix to accept tempo changes from AUM. could you guide me how to do this ?

I've emailed them a couple of weeks ago about the bug where effectrix stops working when turnado is plugged in and vice versa but had no reply.

I hope they sort this out while adding link. I don't mind waiting, I can't run my current set up with effectrix added without crackles anyway and won't buy the upcoming iPad Pro 2 before January so all good.

Yeah sugar bytes apps don't listen to tempo change, the tempo reset each time you press play, the only app I'm sure respond to iaa tempo change is sector

Ah. so its still effectively useless to me then :/ i like having tempo synced delays etc. Moebius labs pretty much
replaced effectrix currently. although if they ever add link i will happy use Effectrix a lot more....

  • The iOS world would be a lesser place without the SugarBoys.

    Good info, thanks.

I wish they all had Link though.

I'd like Egoist to get Link, especially.

I'm surprised everyone has shown favor towards Effectrix. Tried to use it a lot to get my money's worth, but it's not my bag, baby.
