  • I bought Chipspeech last year and a week later this electronic artist guy was talking about using Chipspeech and I got sort of bummed. This is gonna be a race to see who gets in SPIN magazine first on wings of phonem.

The race has already been run as the PC based version of Phoenem has been out for awhile so the most one might hope for would be a footnote about how the app is even being used on iOS. Perhaps striking a pose in an evocative location might get you such recognition?

It's all irrelevant cuz I just spent twenty minutes with Phonem and am close to concluding that it's not something I'll probably get motivated enough to master or even get decent at. But I could get struck by lightning or have an NDE and become a different, better person, so I'll leave it on the ipad in case.

First thing I'm going to do is delete all the stupid phrase presets lol

  • I'll probably force myself to figure it out from sheer desperation, but vocal synthesis in general is still a long way from what i imagine it as (a complete replacement of my idiot vocal cords).

I was hoping to use it more as a synthy choir type thing....

  • This app has much greater application than just vocal phrases. There is some interesting stuff in here for creating useful sounds. I'm going to dig deep in this one...really happy :)

Synthy thingy, yes, vocal replacement? Try vocoder?

  • Getting some interesting sounds going that would fit so well as initial parts of a sound. I'm thinking Phenom mixed with other apps is going to create some killer life into sounds.

No, never happy with vocoders. I want to be like that japanese cartoon singer, just text and data, no body, no debt...

I have it, the developer himself told me on twitter that it was never meant to stand in for human voices, I HAVE ALREADY BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD.

You can make it sing! Try the high quality voices, alter some of the settings, play notes legato, she sings like an angel.

Ok, I will admit what I want, I want Thom Yorke and/or Jonsi's voice in a software package, but it cannot currwntky be done, maybe they will donate their bodies to science/wolfgangpalm and my grandchildren will realize my fantasy.

If like the desktop version, it imports WTS and TCS files, then who knows you may be able to create your own phonetic sounds.

    It excels at articulation.

  • How many presets?

I'm thinking similar to some old synths of the late 80s using this for the start of the sound and the rest done in another synth delayed to become the body of the sound.

105 in the factory bank, but many are just showing off the speech features and not really any use. Will be making my own lol.

I will have to pass then. (Yes I am lame)

Extra banks usually get added in time and it's easy to share banks, so sure some will be posting them eventually.

  • 'Phonem for iPad' - has there been ANY music app worth a damn that came out for the iPhone first?
