Start gadget scenes with midi controller?

edited August 2016 in General App Discussion

Looking to use gadget in a live band setting. Anybody had success starting a track using midi? Thanks

  • I don't think that's possible without a Korg NanoKONTROL controller. Maybe other controllers from Korg too. The AudioBus global start button will work, but that isn't MIDI controllable either.

I would love to be wrong on this one, or if someone is ever able to reverse-engineer whatever transport control Korg implemented between the NanoKONTROL and Gadget. As far as I have been able to see this is pure secret sauce.

  • I just re-read the title. You want to trigger individual scenes? No es possible, even with a NanoKONTROL. (I don't think). My post above was about starting songs, not individual scenes.

  • Gadget is just ripe for Launchpad integration. Particular with it's much touted Ableton export, fair to guess several users of that workflow already own a Launchpad.

  • Here's a thought...

You could export your Gadget song to MIDI, then import the MIDI files into ModStep. You'd have to spend some time time setting up the scenes, but then you could use ModStep to play back to Gadget. Set up MIDI learn to trigger ModStep scenes, and I think you'd be good to go.

If you don't need to manipulate anything on the fly, but just want to play back tracks, rendering each scene to audio and using something like AUM's file player plus MIDI learn to trigger them back might be more stable, and less work, though.

Korg r has to add a mappable start control ASAP, really annoying. Also it should listen, like AB, to AUM when it's abput global start control. Modstep workaround: Just my thought, but having no undo....which results in just another workaround, sigh.
