I [Heart] zMors EQ
What me so long to buy this? Running apps in modstep. Thumbjam levels were low, and the sound was dull. Finally got zMors. Track saved. Opens fast. EQ everywhere!
I think it's Crucial for Modstep if you aren't hosting apps in AUM, but even then it's a really attractive, intuitive EQ. And for those who go for this sort of thing, it allows for PANNING. Seems to lack a bypass switch, but I've only spent three minutes with it.

@ExAsperis99 Good catch, thank you! I usually catch price drops but miss new releases. How do you learn about new apps?
It isn't SilQ but AU is much too shiny to resist. Therefore new shiny is now added to my already ridiculously overstuffed app collection. QED and oy vey.
The sound test room app tracker is amazing. It's basically an amazing app tracker.

Not to take away from the zMors love—it really is a great EQ. But if AU shiny is what you're after, this one is as shiny as owl shit:

It definitely has a cool back story, but I don't really want my EQ to color* my sound, you know? I suppose it imparts "warmth" to a track, despite its austere presence. In the end, it looks kind of impenetrable. I prefer the graphical friendliness of the zMors. (Although why ever iOS EQ doesn't have an audio analyzer, I'll never know. And SilQ I have but never use. Too many notes, as Wolfie says. I can see how it'll come into play for mastering, though.)
Anyway, the point is zMors (or any AU EQ) greatly expands modstep. I actually can't see any reason to buy an effect that isn't AU anymore.
EDIT: * I realize that could be misread. I realize that EQ "colors" a sound, but I don't necessarily want the EQ to have an inherent color of its own.
@brice Thank you for the links, very informative.
For me,, 32-individual-per-band-tweakable EQ looks infinitely shinier than the one you linked to, but I also appreciate that different styles/needs/workflows and different shininess wavelengths can go together equally well.
I like reminders of difference like that, helps me see familiar apps/audio/workflows in new ways.
So thanks for that too.
All fair points. The way I look at it is simply having an array of tools for the demands. Imparting color is certainly not a universal, one-size-fits-all fix. Particularly with EQ. And the more I study this subject, the more I am realizing that great mixing engineers work in layers. Often using various EQ's / EQ types together on the same material. Same goes for compression. Some colors work, sometimes they destroy.
And I totally agree. It's hard to justify an effect purchase if it isn't AU.
You're welcome!

Great point. And after settling on zMors, I read some more about 6144, and it seems that even though it doesn't have presets, the frequencies available to tweak have been carefully curated, and that it's a really appealing piece of software.
The weirdly typical thing is I have 6144 and like it but have the feeling I'm blundering with it; don't have the zmors but guess I might find it simpler to get as far as I can reasonably expect to go (at this point). For all of that it is this very issue that makes me like SILQ. Just makes sense to me (within my ability range).
I like SilQ too, but it does seem crazy that you have to pick which of the seven tracks in your midi sequencer that gets EQ'd!
All 3 (6144, zMors, SilQ) have their place at the table in my workflow—which is seldom working or flowing, but that's beside the point. SilQ is often overkill but still important. This analogy helps me wrap my head around the needs of all 3: the 32 bands of SilQ are effectively precise surgery, while 6144 is more therapy. Do you need highly specific problems solved, or are you needing to treat the whole. It's pretty hard to wreck your material with 6144; this is why the appeal of the hardware it was modeled on is so strong. But it's quite easy to wreck your material, and possibly even lose track of your initial goals with SilQ's 32 bands. zMors is kind of in the middle, and benefits greatly from its visual feedback. Though its lack of any sort of frequency analyzer is puzzling. However, where it really accels for me is in its ability to process in mid/side mode. That alone pushes it to the front of the line for me. Applying a high pass filter on just the side frequencies, ensuring all low end is Restricted to the mid bands improves every single one of my shitty mixes. Of course, the darling king of all iOS EQ's is the FabFilter ProQ2. Unfortunately it's locked away inside of Auria, but that EQ is one of the best in the world and it operates in iOS exactly as it does on the desktop version.
I just recently picked up this app:
M/S Proc - Mid/Side Level & EQ by ART Teknika Inc.
https://appsto.re/us/7xhw_.i
It's definitely worth checking out IMO. Works great as a mastering chain EQ, and makes M/S processing dead simple. Unfortunately no AU though.
Well said. Can we archive this post? I actually have Auria, but I'm working through other apps first to get the courage to enter. Kind of like the scene in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" when he's saving all the animals in the burning pet store, but he keeps saving the snakes for last? Auria is my terrarium of snakes.
Haha! You've no idea just how much I can relate to that sentiment. Though, I might add, one of the snakes in the terrarium is wildly schizophrenic and likes to just up and leave the terrarium without notice, completely disrupting the 'rarium's flow, often causing the need to reboot.
What about AUFX:PeakQ?
Definitely has the attractive waveform analysis, but despite its name is not an Audio Unit.
The AUFX apps is awesome (as all Kymatica apps). OT: my favorite is Space, but one should own them all
One kind of EQ to each purpose
Unfortunately no midi learn...So no go for me...Even if AUX is very interesting indeed...
AUFX:PeakQ does have MIDI learn.
Yes, thanks ! I know, I bought it and using it A LOT
For zmores, In the App Store, I notice it says mobile only. Does this mean no landscape mode on the iPad?
