Before The Blue Season
(for @bluepunk)
Football comes soon. Hearts will be broken. Dreams lost.

I think this is true only if you're an Arsenal fan.
Also, I'm not sure what I listened to, but if the Tindersticks ever did a audio book! That was really cool.
And so it begins. Will be pleased to rid my nostrils from the smell of summer sports...... & to think we were spoilt this term with the Euro's! Just not the same though.......unless you're Welsh of course! As we've chatted about before, it's going to be a belter of a fight. Will check your mob out on Sunday in the curtain raiser. Which brings me neatly onto your song, kind sir.
With everyone of your SOTMC entries, I come out of the experience going over & over your beautiful, powerful words & what they tell me. I'm not clever or intelligent enough to fully understand all of your intricate word work but I do understand the message.....I think
Love your delivery on this one. As clear to me like.....what colour the ribbons will be wrapped around the jug come May. The sounds after "dreams" & "clockwork" fitted perfectly & felt eerie. Nice undercurrent of darkness there & throughout.
Stunning artwork. Keep saying, audiobooks, voiceovers.......ESPN FC pundit! Please tell me you posted your CV..........Burley.......
"Asthmatic panting of the short, fat one." First listen I thought of ......no....I'd better not!
By the fifth I couldn't get Brian Kidd out of my skull! See, you may have only one story in YOUR mind when writing your songs but I go away with many different thoughts & feelings.
The work of a craftsman. Thanks Johnny.
Good luck everyone. Fasten your seatbelts. There's a sky Blue storm approaching!
Personally, I think that after the abomination of the England performance at the Euro footie fest in France, football should be postponed for a year or so, until we become competent.
Curmudgeonly thoughts aside, come on Boro !
@bluepunk Words are actually a cut-up of pieces from Koestler's 'Darkness at Noon'. Would have been better if it'd been 'Darkness at 3pm' but there you are.
The (Manchester) Guardian reckons United 1 and City 2 in the Prem this season. For the record, I would be pleased if the reds make the top four. I think your blues are most certainly the best bet from the vantage point where we stand right now on the brink of another long slog and no one knows....if I had to pick an outside bet it would be the other blues (no, not Leicester, Chelsea ). Let the chuntering begin, Clive.
Only went to Ayresome park once as a kid. All I remember is the City crombies taunting the Boro boys singing & chanting close to the edge banter, to the sound of Middle of The Roads Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep! That & Frannie Lee and his sea anemone hair flapping back & fore with the tide up there! Boro won 1-0 I think. The Viva broke down on the way home......again!
The problem is easily solved by a twofold approach. 1) Employ the German team to play in England shirts. 2) Put a bell in the ball for training up new native players, in order to focus both brain cells.
The other blues. Yes, they could threaten, I agree. Arsenal to miss out. Wenger leaves/is sacked. Allardyce out, Wenger in. Love to witness that handover/takeover! Hull, Burnley & Bourn - mouth to be jettisoned. Brighton (there you are @crouchie) to go up.
Jeff Stelling & the crew from Soccer Saturday return this afternoon. Welcome home boys, missed you........especially Paul Merson. Has me in fits of laughter with his pronunciation of some of the players......& not only the foreign ones!
I'm just hoping it's not double relegation for Aston Villa.
It's been a miserable past 5 years.
Horrid isn't it? It happened to us in 98. We needed third tier football then. It helped to shape our future, although at the time the Kippax was awash with tears. Then......Nicky Weaver, Paul Dickov, Tony Pulis, Wembley. I'm sure Roberto will have Villa there or there abouts come spring. Good luck.
Bless you @Bluepunk !
@JohnnyGoodyear
"Football comes soon. Hearts will be broken. Dreams lost." LOL, I thought this was going to be about the Longhorns.
Windows will be crashing?
Don't know much about world football but I really like your song. Your videos are good too. You have talent for using found media in your work.
Aston Villa. Back to the Premier League. Ecstatic!!
HA!
Wonder what Stevie B. makes of it all? Less than a year ago after all....
On 2 October 2018, Villa surrendered a two-goal lead, drawing 3–3 at home to bottom club Preston North End. One spectator threw a cabbage at Bruce and there were calls from home fans on the Holte End for Bruce to go.
Yeah, that was Bruce's last game.
Seemed like a nice guy but unfortunately he had become a bit pig-headed and clueless tactically using players out of position all over the park.
We missed an injury time penalty in that Preston game that, in hindsight, was a huge blessing in disguise, as we now have a tactically aware boss , Dean Smith, who just happens to be a Villa fan himself.
Good times!
I know nothing of Mister Smith, nor (perhaps crucially) of the ownership of the Villa these days, but would be very interested what lessons they considered learned from the last couple of promoted classes....pretty sure you'll hang on to Mister Grealish for next season (and longer if you stay up )....
