Warranties aren't transferrable. Plus you don't know if someone jizzed all over it.

You sound like a knowledgeable person, however you're totally wrong. Warranty stays with the device.

And if that's what you use your slate for then no, I wouldn't buy it off ya.

I've bought four ipads on ebay, all were absolutely fine. You do have to be very careful though checking out the seller's feedback. Personally, if all seemed fine I'd buy from someone with a lower number of transactions, but not if it's really low.

I've bought all of my iPads on eBay (2,4, air 1, 2x air 2s, iPad Pro 7.9, 2 x mini retina's). All of them were absolutely spotless and some came with posh Apple cases worth £££.

I since sold all of them apart from the air 2s and haven't lost any money as I the original prices were so good I could resell them at the same price a year later.

Not only that, but a lot of people take their iPads with them while they're taking a shit. I definitely wouldn't wanna buy a Poop Pad.

Your unsavoury imagery knows no bounds. ;)

@High5denied Do refurbs run well? I bought a refurbed netbook a few years ago and it was trash and I swore off refurbs at that point. But Apple devices seem more solid so i dunno.

My MacMini works well. I was attracted to the company 'cause their stock goes through more tests than something off Apple's production line, and I could get the max 16gb of RAM plus a brand new 512gb SSD all for a price that beat the nearest new model by a serious margin.

Cheers for clarifying, that's always been my understanding too.

  • I did - it was substantially cheaper, all fine & is still working :)

  • My last two iPad purchases (An Air 1 and recently an iPad Pro) were refurbished units from Amazon sellers. Good prices, fast shipping, and both have performed flawlessly.

That's what I'm leaning towards now.

    ..

    • "Apple Refurbished" units
    • "refurbished" Apple units

these are two totally different things. Only the "Apple Refurbished" units that Apple is testing and reselling will have the full Apple warranty.

For example, if you're buying something refurbished by a re-seller on Amazon, the Apple warranty will be effective beginning the day the unit was originally purchased from Apple (or other approved seller) and not the day you buy it on Amazon. You might get a few months remaining Apple warranty or none.

I honestly think these devices are so well-built that most people will have no problems buying used. But don't expect the full warranty if you get something refurbished by a re-seller.

Yea, there's some sellers on Amazon giving 90 day warranties, that should be enough to figure out if it's junk or not. If I wasn't desperately impovershed I would spring the extra $50 to get Apple's official refurb but etc. etc.

It's a mystery to me why Apple devices have such longevity compared to other electronic devices.

  • I've bought three iPads over the years from Apple's refurbished stock. The iPad4 died about 8 months in...took it to the Apple Store, they couldn't fix it, so I walked out with a brand new iPad4 with a brand new 1year warranty. The only downside was that I didn't have a full backup and lost a few files.
