The things mentioned in this thread are the reason I have gone back to Gadget (since the recent update), BeatHawk and Caustic. It's nice to be able to get something done rather than set a bunch of stuff up expecting it to work the way it should and come away with nothing.

I hear what you're saying - I had a run through with a bunch of apps through Aum last night - sounded great, hit record and a minute or so later Model 15 bombed out making a loud buzz, which didn't stop until I'd closed every app. Recording and setup lost, inspiration pissed on.

Thing is I like using Geoshred, Model 15, Moebus etc. and they don't work in Gadget...

Right - I wish it worked like my old hardware setup. If I got a new piece of gear I fed MIDI to it, plugged it into the mixer and off I went. Everything worked as expected. I guess that's not feasible in the current structure of iOS music making.

Cubasis and gadget is an okay-combo, but the MIDI timing is waaaay off. It's all choppy and spluttery. And also AB doesn't save Gadget state despite it being in the list of SS apps. Guess the best thing is to just use Gadget on it own. It definitely works!

*edit, my bad. Gadget is not on the SS list.

*another edit; timing between Cubase and gadget is smack on with AUM, so that's a result I guess!

  • I don't have this issue with iMini, but have had exactly the same problem with Thor intermittently (but most of the time). Had that issue since iOS 8 and even now on iOS 9. I've heard others have it with other apps.

Answer to the problem? None I know of. Some people just don't get the problem, others do.

  • I think a lot of the things that make iOS good to use also obfuscate a lot of processes and issues that we need to see to understand the problems. It feels like there's lots of stuff going on under the hood that we just can't get at, and we have to trust the developers to do it right.

Basically what I'm saying is this is all Apple's fault ;)

  • iMIni has always had buggy and poorly implemented MIDI, with stuck notes and jittery MIDI learn. iSEM has had none of these issues.

Lesson for Arturia: Stick with Tempo Rubato for contracting out iOS development.

  • Oh yeah iSEM is absolutely solid as a rock. Like I said the only problem I've had with it is caused by iProphet, which for reasons beyond me seems to kill whatever preset is loaded until you go up and then down a preset in iSEM. shrugs

    Go figure!

  • Ooh well hey, emailed DM1 about the Cubasis bug and it's been noted and marked for investigation and patching! One app down, only a dozen to go!

  • Just to let you know how Arturia is doing support

I send them an email about these problems, and particularly about midi issues...
They just told me, unistall/reinstall, that should solve it...Incredible...

So I made this video, to show it didn't work, never heard of them again...

Same here. I emailed with full details of the problem and they asked me what the fault was (uh, it's in the email k sent?) and if I've tried re-installing. Sigh.

  • Yeah, I think there should be a pact that we always do a reinstall and restart before contacting support, and they in turn promise to skip both the 'did you restart' and 'did you reinstall' messages that begin every support dialog.
