Dealing with stupidity... LIVE! (off topic)
Ok, small personal story/ rant if you all don't mind.
So, I get invited to a friend's house, someone I haven't seen for a long time, for a cookout/campfire/jam session.
Turns out he has made a sound absorbing/treated "music room" in his basement.
On one end of the room, he has a drum kit in the middle, bass amp on the left side next to it in the corner, guitar amp on the other side of the drum kit in the other corner...
all pointed at the other end of the room!!!
So, seeing that I'm being coerced into playing the guitar, I let out a small plea that maybe, just maybe, we should make a directional triangle between the kit and 2 amps so we can all actually hear each other since no one else was in the room, we would be improvising, and there was no one to either impress or make ill.
And I get the response, "trust me when I tell you that this room sounds the absolute best it can in this configuration, I used REW (Room EQ Wizard) and measured every sound perfectly, and it sounds the very best like this... I mean, I guess you could move the amp, but you'd be ruining the sound."
I could only imagine the WTF I was forking out at that moment.
There is a reason (something like this) for why I can't have friends who aspire to play instruments/music, and can only work with other musicians on a professional level.
I think I'm done with even entertaining the fanciful notion that I can hang in these scenarios.

What happened to the days when everything was balanced on beer crates and the practice room door would never shut properly?
Don't forget the swiss army knife of studio gear, the gaffer tape !! - Cable tidy, pick holder, cymbal deadener, practice room door stop...hehe
My mind is just blown. He doesn't even record anything! This was not for recording purposes where he had measured everything to the position where a recording mic would sit! As far as I know, he does not even have a mic of the quality necessary to make accurate measurements!
This was like three weeks ago and I'm still WTF-ing!
Yep many happy memories of gaffer taping one of the speakers to stop it falling out of the cabinet lol
Yep Jamming should be about fun not pointless rules.
Just humour him, poor chap....as long as he is happy....LOL
Yea its frustrating, especially for someone like me who instantly notices logical mistakes(like with the scenario you said), how to make them better and dealing with people who insist of doing something in a certain way. Even tho their way is clearly inferior and takes more effort, thus makes no sense. Some people are just so irrational that they reject help because they dont want other people to make things better because they want to do things their way because they want to do things that way because they want to do it like that(<- yea that makes no sense, and is my point). Based on my observations, its usually because of low self esteem, which makes them think the whole scenario as someone helping trying to "win" them in some weird way, and that makes them resist because they cant handle losing the fight. Even tho there is really no fight..
Sounds like a stop mechanism for an accidental leslie.....hang on, if you found the right elastic band, you could of used it for an analog gater effect
We didn't have great musical ideas when we were young. We spent more time designing band posters and trying to convince girls to come to practice
LMAO - sounds familiar
Short history of my early music fun:
Our set up was in a teachers brick out building. We borrowed the schools drum kit and 4 input amp and speakers.
I tried guitar.....I was crap.
I tried bass......I was crap.
I got a mono synth and that was me set.....I was still crap but hey it was cool (I also had a drum synth pad and a mic - I could sing better than the main singer but he had the looks!
I then bought a 20 foot cable so I could sit out in the sun and keep away from the noisy drummer lol
I also bought a 20 ft cable, so that i could get away from a noisy PC when trying to record guitar
Its great when you have musician friends but don't really care about each other's music that much. You end up having lots of philosophical conversations about music itself without any of the bullshit "my way is better" stuff. Cause every one knows going in, that "your thing, is not my thing"
Great things about rooms with doors is that one can get away from situations like that.
