Latency with devices on the same USB hub
I've run out of ports on my computer so I'm thinking a USB hub. Is there latency between the computer and devices on the HUB? How about two devices on the same hub? Thanks.
Comments
I can't think of any reason why it would. It's just electrons moving around, not any added audio processing.
Not exactly latency, but different transfer rates may cause issues.
For instance, If you have a hub usb 2, and two devices, let's say 1 is usb 1 and the other usb 2, IF you're hub is a cheap one, without MTT (multiple transaction translators ) functionality (provided by some chipsets in the hub) then all your devices will run at USB 1 speed !
Might not be a huge issue if you have 2 midi controllers on the hub, but could be one, if you transfer audio + midi with multiple devices connected...
So having a clean hub (with MTT) help avoiding unknown issues.... (lost connection with midi devices for no reason, micro electric chocs: VERY BORING AND HARD TO FIGURE OUT, glitches on audio flux...)
So, not about latency, but still very boring...
Thanks for your help guys. I'll pick up a USB 2.0 hub right away.
