Import sounds from Mininova to Circuit possible ?

Hello,

As it seems to be the same engine, are the patches from Mininova can be imported into Circuit ? And vice versa ?
I have a Mininova, and thinking about getting a Circuit...But I have already my patches into the Minnova...So...

Thanks :)

  • Don't think it's possible, the synth specs are different.

  • The Circuit synth controls can be found here https://d19ulaff0trnck.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/novation/downloads/12118/circuit-midi-parameters-v4.pdf
Which gives all parameters that can be edited on the synths.

You could compare these to the Mininova ones and see what is missing. i believe they said it was a cut down version of the Mininova, whether that means cut down on the engine itself or on the controls I don't know.

You certainly cannot currently just load a mininova patch into circuit.

  • Hmm thanks...I just found this

I'm also looking for the list of factory patches of Circuit to see if they could manage some...

Seems to make sense, simple patches could transfer over, but need to be manually entered or someone could write a sysex converter for patches I guess, you get mixed results, but hey, you might get some happy accidents in the process :)

Just my 2c but I'd recommend circuit as a tool, it has the excellents synths, the sampler is pretty good too, the sequencer is handy and has some nice tricks, although slighty limited in some peoples thinking (no on board pattern chaining), and as a controller is also excellent.

  • Yes, in fact I would like to have a sound module hardware, to consolidate, and love the mininova, but I often need the vocoder at the same time.
Might have some pattern in it also, for live use, Modstep will complete gently...Not so much for sample but why not if it's there :)
And as controller, I'd like to have a scaled keyboard on the fly.

Looks like a perfect fit for those requirements :)

The more I use mine, the more I like it, and the more jobs I find that it will do for me :)

  • @AndyPlankton do you know the mininova ? On your opinion is it really less powerful ? I'd like to make it play fat bass, a bit in a modular style...Sort of...I know mininova is not that powerful, but with effects, it does the trick... ;)

I've never seen one in the flesh :| so could not comment as to its capabilities. @jakoB_haQ got one recently and did a small vid on it. You could look on his youtube, or ask his opinion here.
On the vid he had some pretty big dubstep type bass sounds goings.

    @AndyPlankton ok let's do that ! :)

@jakoB_haQ do you have the Circuit also ? I own a Mininova, and love it...Would like to purchase a Circuit, but I'm wondering if bass sounds into the Circuit are as deep as the Mininova... :)

I have the MiniNova and yes it does have some wicked fat bass sounds and the big fat filter knob just feels right for the job! My what a big knob for such a little guy! As Jacob might say, go finger it.

The more I listen to Circuit's demo, more I think the sound is cheap...Even if the controls and the sequencer seems great...
Too bad there's not a "pro" version...With new colors... :D

How far has digital come since the 1980's ?

These patches can be played inside VirtualCZ and all patch packs are on sale till the end of August..I picked up the entire set for $30 and was well worth it.

I reckon Mike at CZsounds does a bang up job with his website, videos and patches...smooth operator.

  • Lol...Well...Didn't knew the Casio CZ101, thanks for the Kraftwerk revival, and interesting piece of gear, but I'll go for a Circuit...Easier to find...

  • Ok I'm gonna get one... :)

  • It's definitely not a cheap sound, especially once you dive in with the editor and start tweaking the default patches a bit. Doesn't take long to make them a bit more unique for the sounds you prefer.

    You won't regret it :)
