Launchpad app question
Hi Gang,
I'm looking for the key signatures of the default project sound packs in the Launchpad app. When you go to the in-app store to review new packs they show the bpm and key for the sound packs. But I can't find the key info for the packs that come when you buy the app. I don't know if I'm missing some place within the app where this info is available or I just can't find it somewhere on the web, but it is eluding me. Anybody know what the key is for the default packs or where to find out?

Thanks Jeff...
Since the thread is labeled 'Launchpad Question/s'..
How do you export multiple tracks on the Launchpad?
All I can do is a stereo export... Maybe I am missing something here or is there another IAP for this?
Thanks.
I don't know
Stereo out only. > @RajahP said:
Stereo out only, no IAP for multi-out (yet...maybe someday?)
Thanks Jeff.
None of those packs were included in the default set when I got Launchpad way back when they first launched! Here is the list of sound packs I need the keys for:
Most specifically, I did a really nice thing using "Hip Hop" a while back and want to use it as the basis for much more and knowing the key would make the project so much easier. Sadly, I do not have the chops to tell the key by listening, sigh!
Ok, so I found a way to get the answer. Another thread on this forum discusses iOS apps for determining key signature/bpm. So I used Capo to get the key(s) I needed for the Launchpad packs. But did I stop there? Oh no, I also downloaded DJ Pro for my iPad Pro. Oh boy, here we go again... grin!
@AmpifyxNovation and @all small (?) workaround/request: My visual memory is poor and I would love to be able to long hold/triple tap/point and shoot at certain pads to indicate that they are the ones I have identified as central to any jam. YES, I could just delete other non-essential pads, but for a quick aide-memoire the idea of 'bolding' these two bass pads, this kick, these tops, and these three melodies/fxs would really help...
I do this by arranging the pads within the app.....I work upside down to most so you may want to flip the top and bottom in the following. I'll use intro/verse/chorus but change these to whatever suits what you are doing....I also tend to stick with the default column layout, i.e from the left Drum/Drum/Bass/Melody/Melody/Melody/FX/Vox
I use the bottom row for any pads I want to use in the intro/build up
next row is the verse, so this is where you would put 1 set of your essential pads
Third row is a variation of the second row, some pads will be duplicates of the second row some will be changed (I do this so I can select the whole row for a quick change to the variation)
4th row I use for the chorus - the 2nd set of essential pads
5th again a variation of the chorus.....
6th row can be used for a middle 8 and or bridge whatever....
If you do this with every track you use the Launchpad App for, you will always know exactly where you are at within any track without having to learn them all individually....
Do all of the above in blocs wave to make it easier for you to move stuff around. (same layout even in groovebox (hopefully with scenes at some point) ).....full end to end source/playback all laid out in the same way so you can use any combination of the apps and work on the same tune
You can extend this to work with Circuit also (Which I do a lot)....if you put the drums onto circuit then you can get control of the individual drums rather than having them fixed on a pad....I'll do this to replace (turn off in LP app) at least the first column of drums, (I keep the second drum column to play drums at patterns that require triplets or higher than 16th note resolution as the circuit cannot do this without tricks using delay) also I'll use synth 1 for bass, and turn off column 3 in LP, and then use synth 2 to replace column 4 (1st of the melody columns).....
This means I can essentially play the same track on the LP app alone, or use Groovebox/blocs wave or coupled with circuit (and also Mininova and BS2) to get the finer control of those 4 columns and all the while know where I am in every track as they are all laid out the same.....this does however mean being pretty strict with what you use where when building a track
I like the 'bolding' idea for when working with soundpacks though
Hope this helps
I work similar @AndyPlankton
I wish there was a way of swapping rows easily for when you realise the verse you just wrote actually works better as a chorus....
Blocs is usually fine as you can copy stuff about, but once you've got a full grid it ain't so easy
Thank you for your insight/workflow peek. Makes perfect sense. And I will certainly have whirl in that way. I don't tend to approach these apps thinking, right, time to make a song, but it's amazing to me how often I'm standing at the checkout and find a little collision of a couple of things by accident that I'd like to revisit...Nurse always said I needed more discipline. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for a peek into your Launchpad world... Great ideas man! I don't think I'll copy your exact flow, however I usually have a guitar strapped on me while I play my LPpros, and this top-bottom flip approach definitely would help my access to the pads which are almost always my user creations and sometimes don't fill the whole grid. Also very curious about the Circuit flow... I have 2 Launchpad Pros, 1st that strictly runs LPapp and FluxFX/LiveFX on 1st ipad, 2nd runs all my midi instruments on the second... Ive seriously been looking at getting a Circuit, but I've thought it was Novation PAD overkill with 2 LPpros. Does the Circuit have any native plugplay with any Novation apps yet? If not, then you just have to use the Circuit editor to create midi mappings of sorts? Give me a good reason to get a Circuit...lol... and workflow potentials.
I would love Blocs/Groovebox hardware compatibily...Geeezsh! Groovebox scene creator with LP import! And could they please fix the Blocs and LP file system! I know they wanna sell Soundpack IAPs, but give us a complete Novation workstation with full control even through IAPs and I'm a happy camper! And for the love of humanity, I would love to be able to use the "record" button on the LPP while on a specific channel and loop midi like ableton. I would be locked in my basement for days and my wife would kick my ass for lighting up the subwoofer at 4am... One can only dream...
No, not that I have found anyway...think of circuit as a Launchpad with built in patterns and sounds, both sampled and synths....I use it alongside the other apps as opposed to controlling them....with the exception of Groovebox, where circuit can be used as a step sequencer for it, or you can play on the pads if you don't already have keys...but you can do this in the GB app on screen anyway....
One use case I do a lot is to build drum/bass and chord patterns on circuit, then using the MIDI Link Sync app, sync circuit to blocs wave to add sampled loops.....once you have something going you can then record the audio from the circuit patterns into blocs (or into AUM/Audioshare and import into blocs), then you can push the whole thing into Launchpad which allows you to play the circuit based stuff from the LP app (and LP hardware) when you don't have your circuit with you. In this setup circuit is acting like a hardware version of Groovebox. I will often build patterns and sounds in Groovebox, and then reprogram them onto circuit using the step sequencer and Sound editor app (Midi Synth Circuit)....the circuit hardware sound design is a voyage of blind discovery as you do not know what the knobs are controlling in each patch...using Groovebox to design the sounds initially gets around this, the synths don't match exactly but you can get very close.
Circuit acts a regular MIDI device, note out for the pads I think, and CC's for the knobs.....there was a great vid posted the other day showing how to set Circuit up as a 51 knob controller...

tbh in my setup I use circuit for itself and to sequence my other hardware synths. You can just use MIDI learn in your where it is available.
Because it is a great little unit
You get 4 sample tracks and 2 nova based synths....you can do a huge amount with just circuit alone
The step sequencer(s) on circuit are really nice to use, with scale modes etc...on board mixer and Reverb/Delay FX...global filter....the synths sound great......there are so many ways of using circuit.....check out Youtube vid's for examples, go for the tutorials as they give so many tricks.
This is pretty much what Circuit is, but a lot more too....select synth 1...press record...play your notes on the pads....and it loops....I am getting great results from playing the Mininova and BassStation2 arps into circuit and recording them...
My current wishes are for filtering on the MIDI channels/devices for input into groovebox...this would allow use of all the sequencers in circuit to be used to sequence and then record the sequences into Groovebox....
, if you don't have 8 fingers available this is current easiest done by swiping the row in the app.
Midi Out from Groovebox to allow recording of Groovebox sequences into Circuit....this would require some self control though as circuit is 16th notes and no smaller, and no triplets without using delay....the Groovebox sequencer has a higher resolution than that and does have triplets....
Floor control of the circuit sessions/patterns, linked to the scenes (rows) in the LP app.....I would have a guitar pretty much permanently strapped to me too if I had enough floor control....I think it is possible to do with circuit, just need a floor controller with enough switches...but currently not possible for the LP app.....I have considered getting an LP Mini and trying to make something floor based from it, but I'm not sure... as trying to press 8 switches at the same time (to swap scene) on the floor would be impossible as I don't have tap dancing skills
This I agree with 100%...apart from AUM (for live mixing), some AU FX, ruismakers (for creating samples for circuit), and Cubasis for recording and arranging, I am using pretty much exclusively Novation hardware and apps.
I know exactly what you mean.....I have learnt that when dabbling always expect something to come out that is useful....then when it actually does you don't have loads of work trying to restructure stuff to make is useable......
Having thought more about the 'bolding' idea.....it would be really nice to be able to load a soundpack in LP...select a few pads....then 'Send To Blocs' and have those pads arranged nicely in a row in blocs
You can open LP packs in Blocs and export the project. Why to start into LP when Blocs has more tools (slice seq)?
I will love to see groovebox export into Blocs to have 3/4 parts of the circle...
When a new soundpack for LP comes out, and you load it, and instantly find some loops you like and want to expand on......
Otherwise you then have to go to BW, search for the loops you have found in LP, add then to project etc.....
The above would save all that.
GB into BW would be great.....but I would like this to be capable of merging.....
You have a project in GB, you are running BW synced via link and have a couple of say vocal loops going in there...it would be nice to be able to send the GB loops into that BW project to save you having to export from GB, then go find those same vocal loops and re-add them....impossible if you've done a bunch of slicing without first flattening from the other project.....
None of that is simple to work out with all the What If's that come along with it, which is probably why it hasn't been done yet
Yeah as exploring soundpacks LP is faster than Blocs. I usually use the Find in blocs but that's because I buy more blocs packs than LP...
Merging or whatever! A simple way to compose then perform! Atm I don't use GB due it's restrictions doesn't worth its benefeits (to me of course) but I'm waiting some integration to jump the fence and buy all the IAPs
export to bw or LP in some form will on the 'we must do this sooner rather than later' list I am sure
...fwiw I don't find exporting the individual files too much of a hassle...export project files from GB to Audioshare...then send then to BW from there....as it does the names pretty much spot on it takes little time as you don't have to fill in all the loop properties because it pickes them up from the filename...even the type..if it is Drumbox the loop is drums...bass for the RetroBass and melody for the Poly 8...although it is a bit smarter than that I had one where the project name was bongo and it tried to make the loops drum tracks in BW.
Pretty sure these guys have something 'next' upcoming and am looking forward to it. But selection/bolding/whatever would be nice for those of us who work on the fly (which I suspect a number of us do...)
by this I meant that when i am dabbling, to expect myself to make something useful that I will want to build on....so I do the structuring beforehand to save a lot of afterwork....
Agree

Right Johnny? What you are saying, no?
@JohnnyGoodyear Yeah the Circuit has intrigued me for a while. Thanks for some insight. I definitely understand the step sequencing, and how it would work with ipad apps. I learned basic sequencing years ago with my Korg electribe. I guess the reason I haven't bought the circuit is because most of the videos I've scene on YouTube, it seems to be geared more towards a house/trance 4 on the floor sound. I'm not saying that I don't play electronic music
but my compositions are more electro hiphop-ish and ethnically funky. (80-115bpm) I play instrument sounds more than synth sounds. My Guitar and loop pedal are very much a part of my sound too and I guess just from what I've seen the circuit might not be for me. But after reading your posts Im further intrigued. I'm wondering if I should have gotten a circuit instead of a second Launchpad Pro now! Question...
So I know that it has scale mode much like the Launchpad Pro, so I assume you can select midi channels 1-16 on the fly as well? My question is when you select a scale on the circuit, does the sequencing bounce around on that scale based on your input(like Xynthesizr for example), and can you also play the individual pads of an instrument on another midi channel on top while the sequence plays? I ask this because like I mentioned before I have one dedicated Launchpad Pro that I use only with assorted midi instruments in scale mode on top of loop pedal and other LPP/ipad combo with LPapp.
If it were possible to do the same thing with scales on the circuit and use the sequencer and looping in unison... then I will definitely consider taking back my other Launchpad Pro!
Also Groovebox really needs a MIDI channel selector since the update I don't use it because the GB sounds play over top of my 15 other channels. Bummer, but I'm sure they will fix that.
Regardless...the Circuit has it's eyes on my bank account!
Couldn't you export the separate tracks to AudioShare and then into wherever you want them? I might be wrong...
Yup
Circuit is fixed to midi channel1 for synth1, channel 2 for synth2 and channel10 for Drums....
If you change scale then your pattern is transposed to that scale...
You can play a sequence, and play the pads at the same time, but only sending to the same midi destination. I guess you could use ab3 and a combination of note filter and transpose to be able to do this though, if you feel so inclined.
No, can't do.. But I think it is promised in a future update..
