App idea
So I've been playing papa sangre and nightjar games. They use binural 3d audio to making sounds appear as if they're moving around or are in front/behind you. Its not a new technology by any means but im surprised no one has invented an app that you use binural sound for positioning (and moving) of sounds in 3d space. Most desktop daws usually have plug-ins or whatnot. Just think it would be a neat idea if any developers are out there and looking for a new app idea.
Have several looping tracks (like loopy) and be able to record/mixdown while moving them in "3d" space. Would be cool for certain glitchey noises especially I think.

The functionality is already part of iOS. I'm surprised we haven't seen it used more often...

One thing you can do is mix and do sound design in mono but go crazy with stereo effects. If you get it eqed and sounding right there, when putting it back in stereo you will often find that the stereo effects you abused will sound great and often have binaural seeming things happening. I think it's because in mono, you can hear where things clash better, leading to better mixing of said fx rather than if you tried mixing in stereo. I dunno, it could be bullshit or a trick of the mind but I've gotten things sounding like they're coming from behind or inside my head that way. I'll wait for the smart folks to chime in.
My first thought was "who would want that?" My second, "this could be really awesome". I think the reason you haven't seen it from developers (speaking from my own experience) is they simply forget about it - i.e. not enough people/no one recommends it. There's also managing feature sets in an app, and though the technology to project 3D sound is old in iOS (though unsure of the level of integration needed), the UI/UX would be its major barrier (not impossible, just hard). Think about where you position instruments, how they move over time, how the center of the room changes. Maybe I'm over complicating it, but they're intrinsic in games where the user gets an experience, rather than create it.
But the results would definitely be epic.
Waves Nx is a good example:

They (iOS AUs) just need an AUv3 'wrapper'. I've heard that the ZMors Modular developer is working on a 'wrapper' to make all the 'iOS system' AUs available to all apps that support AUv3.
Who knows maybe Cubasis 2.0 will 'wrap' all the CoreAudio AUs into AUv3 so we can at least use them within Cubasis
Maybe @LFS can shed some light on this issue?
