Proper etiquette for posting musical projects
I've only been around here about a month. Does a thread already exist for this? Even tho it's an AB forum, i see that all things ios related are discussed here, so i can see how someone posting their EP or SC tracks would get easily bumped down from all the discussions, or possibly seem spammy.
[Edit] just seen song of the month club, which seems cool! Any other existing threads for other types of projects?
Comments
Song of the month is a very good place, but be warned, she's a hard taskmaster....otherwise and otherwise folks seem to use 'Creations' if they've been creative and want to share things....
Anything goes over here as long as done mindfully. And yes, as @JohnnyGoodyear has suggested TSOTM club is a good place albeit it is a bit of a club and I for one find it hard to keep up.
Nothing wrong with just posting your stuff in a new thread but it helps if it is an IOS creation with some background of what's been used and how such as:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/15107/the-mighty-impaktor-video#latest
People will be more likely to listen if you are vaguely active on the forum first but Song Month is good for some opinions and honest feedback, like said above can be hard to keep up
Just don't post it twice.
Also, we're geeky bunch so descriptions of the what and how go a long way.
And welcome!
I post a fair amount, but I usually try to illustrate something in iOS (usually Different Drummer.) Hopefully it's helpful. Sometimes I post something just because I liked it and hope others might as well. There have been some who seem to post just to get their Soundcloud numbers up, and I don't think that's very well received.
Understood. Thanks guys! Song of the Month rules remind me a bit of the OP-1 battles. Definitely lots of work listening and commenting on others content. A good thing if you have the time to commit.
I'm still working on my iOS work flow tho. It's been many months of trial and error but finally getting some preliminary results. Lurking this forum has helped lots.
Lurking the forum sounds so very, well...
Yeaup. That sums it up well @JohnnyGoodyear. Computers, too many choices, troubleshooting, downtime. Hardware, less distractions but too limited for start to finished polished products. Ipad, seems to be the best and worst of both worlds, lol. All three mediums combined would be ideal, but i no longer have the space, or time. Still haven't given up on making something workable and fun for me on ipad alone (plus qunexus & good cans).
If u post your audio creations please don't try to be cute and post click bait titles.
Now there's absolutely no way I'm not going to make a thread entitled, "I just bought [whatever-app-is-the-talk-of-the-forum-that-week] and you won't believe what happened next..."
"I just bought Auria pro for $25 and it came with a free copy of BM3!"
All the above plus a few points to keep in mind:
The AB Forum is not a free self promotion site, so try to think 'why am I posting here?' If it is for promoting your own material, ask yourself if you actually put something back into the site. For example, thesoundtestroom have promoted their albums here - this is fine as they have put so much into the community here.
If it's really little to do with iOS music making, take it else where We are essentially iOS music making geeks here and while many will find any music making of interest, don't expect everyone to care unless it has at least some iOS link.
It's called the Audiobus Forum and hence their rules go. It's easily the most relaxed site going in my opinion. We like it that way
Be mindful that people will disect what you post and give honest (and sometimes tough) opinion. There are some skilled music makers, programmers, tech heads here. Throw in the vast range of experience with the usual opinion of individuals and we have an environment to learn from, but also for strong forces to collide. Keep chilled and have regular holidays
Have fun
Wow, thanks everyone for doing my job for me.
nice points, agree....
i post sometimes things here which i think are interesting for "us" in best conscience!
even its not iOS or AudioBus, but thats minority.
if its own stuff put it in the category: Creations
and just again
thx @all members of the AB-Club for all the constructive help & the friendly and respect answers.
@Sebastian I think if the Song of the Month threads were kept in the Creations Forum, then we would have less of a chance of new people coming up here thinking it's ok to post their music in the General Forum.
