The list is about a year old. We can add:

  • iPhone (duh)
  • Korg: newer Volcas
  • Novation Circuit
  • Roland: Boutique series
  • ???

Some additions from this thread:

  • Casio PX5s (most Casios actually, including the XW-G1 and fam)
  • Roland Ax Synth
  • Yamaha shs10/200
  • Sony PSP (see link below)
  • Nintendo Gameboy with NanoLoop
  • Zoom Rhythmtrak series
  • Yamaha Reface series
  • Korg SQ-1
  • Teenage Engineering PO series

For remote power, there are things like

  • Dimension Engineering Anyvolt 3
  • RipCord (kickstarter)

If you have a USB brick (or an ipad!) lots and lots of MIDI Controllers are bus powered, including the Aurturia Beat and Key Steps.

Have other things to add? I'm digging the trend in USB power on gear because it's so cheap and easy to get portable USB chargers. Would love to see more and more of it. Plus, one size fits all! Death to wall warts.

Comments

  • Electric guitar going into a guitar interface. Doesn't even need a battery. :D

  • Yes, USB power is awesome. Even more awesomerer than battery power.

  • Re battery powered keytars

    Roland Ax Synth
    Yamaha shs10/200

I've been using a Dimension Engineering Anyvolt 3 for a few years; 3V-24V DC output range from a 5V-30V DC input range; the output is easily set with a small screw and a meter. No wiring or electronics skills needed as connections are all screw terminals. It powered my DSI Mopho using various battery combinations with no problems.

Kickstarter also featured the Ripcord recently; there are various versions which supply 9V, 12V, 18V DC etc from any usb powerbank. I have a couple on order; I already use an early version which supplies 9V DC centre neg to various effects pedals. You can use any old usb powerbank with the Ripcord...

Edirol/Roland PCR-300 runs on my RavPower battery pack. But you have to use midi out Din cable. No problem when I use it with BSP.
BeatStep Pro runs with same pack.
The Zoom U24/44 sound card runs on battery pack too or rechargeables.

Edit: be careful when buying these battery packs, some claim ridiculous Ah capacity.

  • Korg SQ-1 also deserves a mention, a charming little retro step sequencer which supports MIDI, USB, several CV/Gate standards, Sync pulse and LittleBits connectivity.

  • Good stuff all. Zoom Rhythmtrak's are all battery powered. Also the Teenage Engineering PO series.

Nice time to be into this stuff!

  • Nice list, thanks!

To add to this there's the Yamaha Reface range.
