Stopping updates for Audiobus v2 when v3 is released.
I contacted a developer to ask about support for Audiobus on one of their apps released a couple years ago. He said that it was supported once, but whenever Audiobus was updated, it would cause problems. Is 2.3.8 at a point where it doesn't need updating any more? Can it be frozen at that version when v3 is released so that compatibility problems won't be so much of an issue-- especially with older apps that are seldom updated (or abandoned) or apps that just need a simpler connection than what v3 will likely offer?
Or is there something I'm not seeing, like the possibility of iOS 10.x breaking AB completely requiring a necessary update.
Comments
The Recent Audiobus SDK requires iOS 8. If a developer wants to support iOS 7 then they cannot update to it. That's the issue at hand.
iOS 10 does not cause issues that I'm aware of with pretty much anything related to iOS music apps.
Odd, I'm sure I read that Auria is broken under ios10 till they release a fix.
To be totally honest I'd rather see apps get the updated AudioBus SDK than keep compatibility with iOS7.
As with computers and other stuff there is a point in time when the 'need' to get new hardware becomes apparent.
(I also suspect that by now the battery on the old iOS devices doesn't last that long either).
My 1st gen iPad Mini will stay at iOS9.3.x(no iOS10 support) while both iPhone 5 and iPad Air 2 will the the iOS10 'treatment'
For me In iOS10 running ppg phonem as AU in GarageBand always shuts down all audio from all other AU. (Probably crashes the AU subsystem)
We'll probably see more random bugs in different apps and hosts ...bracing myself.
Ouch. That'll probably be fixed soon-ish, I hope. The emphasis in my statement above was on 'that I'm aware of'. What's broken with Auria?
Apparently (I'm not.an ios10 beta tester)
"IAA instruments are all missing and dialogs are corrupted, for example you can't create a new project. Showstopper bugs it would seem."
Has to be said they left it a bit late to start testing, there's a post on the Auria forum dated Sept 5

Thanks. I haven't tested Auria under iOS 10 yet, but will start testing soon. Thanks for letting me know. Have you tried the non-optimized mode in the settings page to see if it makes a difference?

I had an issue in Ruismaker crashing under iOS 10. After looking into it together with Apple's Garageband team it turned out to be a sloppiness on my end (had to do with cleaning up some mess after uninitializing an extension). Apparently iOS is a bit more strict when it comes to memory-related misbehavior.
I haven't seen any issues that were caused by iOS 10 itself, however. I guess a lot of issues we may see in the coming weeks are actually bugs that were in the apps in the first place but slipped through under iOS 9.
How about an Audiobus Classic with no support for legacy apps. Would that bite into sales of V3 much?
