App Store "Improvements"

edited September 2016 in General App Discussion

Apple is streamlining the AppStore which I think is great for our active devs but we might lose some Golden Oldies. If an app hasn't been updated for X amount of time, Apple could possibly delete it.
I'm looking at you Samplr! I back up some of my ipa's just incase...looks like I'll be a bit more active.

  • I gather from what they told me as a developer that apps will just be removed from the store. Existing users will still "have access" (their words) to the apps and even be able to make in-app purchases.

I would not panic just yet.

Oh, Apple improvements...iOS 9.3.5 and you can't see metadata on Photo app or rename them.

    BUT IT'S WHAT WE DO!

One of my few remaining pleasures, that and anxiety.

Hopefully you're correct. I'm not panicking, I realize this is the true price to pay for all iOS softsynths...I'm just being extra careful.
We've lost the ability to search for and download Alchemy in the AppStore. Those of us who already had it are lucky enough to be able to re-download it from our purchases. The story isn't the same for all apps however; Wablet and BlissPad. I purchased them (I think one was free) years ago and they are nowhere to be found in the AppStore or my purchases in either the iPad or iPhone sections. Yes, some would consider them toys, but I found them fun and inspiring. Thankfully I made a backup for Wablet but BlissPad seems to be lost forever and I think that's a bummer.

Is there a logic behind apps that can no longer be downloaded? E.g. they are no longer compatible with today's operating systems and can only be downloaded on suitably old devices running an old iOS?

  • Apps will most likely remain in your previous purchases and you will be able to download them. If an app still works then there's no reason to update it. Also, the developer of Samplr now works for Apple. I think Samplr is going to be just fine ;)

I hope so, Samplr is a classic and would be sorely missed.
