Thats Really Great!
This is wow
Already sent a request email to a dev, woot!
I wonder if Ford will link enable my Focus, so it will drive at an appropriate speed for the music on the radio
Wouldnt had thought they would be giving it to their desktop competitors. But then again this way ableton can rub the fact in their competitors face that they need ableton to make their product better and also get some advertisement in competetive products.
But good news for those using some other daw than ableton.
Next... LINK enabled hardware???
Also wondering how this will play out with the remaining iOS Daws that don't have link - seems almost isolationist at this point to hold out - but yeah, you do have to put that preference pane in there, ouch...
Great news! btw there are nearly 100 LINK enabled iOS apps.Hope FL Studio for Windows will also implement LINK now.
Sweet, hopefuly someone makes a 'Link to Midi' for windows
Linked Aira ...
Which iOS DAW does have link then?
Very cool move from Ableton. It proves they genuinely appreciate the electronic music ecosystem, aside from a direct source of income.
A move towards universal standards that are free to developers is real progress that helps the end user. Like MIDI, it, despite its technical limitations, still stands as a political achievement seldom rivaled in electronic music instruments.
I hope Bitwig gets it before year end.
Very cool...
Would be great to have midi controllers (like Beatstep or NanoPad) that are tempo aware come with Link (although I guess that would require them being able to join a wi-fi network!).
Very much "the internet of things"...
I did figure out how to get an old iphone with KorgSync App loaded on it to send a CV pulse to my PO rhythm so that it became Link synced... Quite cool.
Wow! Classy move Ableton!
Looks like they already got it working with Raspberry Pi
Anyone got Serato DJ working with Link yet. I downloaded the latest beta. I think you need to register a compatable controller or pay a monthly fee to get the full package open though. I couldnt see anywhere in the beta software settings to select it.
Hasn't midi clock sync been the standard for like 1 million years or something?
Looks like Ableton will now see their LINK becoming the new standard...
Yeah, but now it's wireless and really easy peasy.
I am really happy about this and Hope Logic becomes Link too
And can only say thx to ableton
Amazing, generous and so totally non cynical which sets a great example.
Just saw this thread on Cakewalk's Sonar forum:
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Reason-has-Ableton-Link-now-Could-Sonar-add-this-very-useful-feature-m3483364.aspx
I'm predicting no love from Cakewalk.
Gadget and ModStep. Not that Gadget can really be called a DAW...
BTW, You don't need to have Live to use Link. Now Reason has Link for example, you can use it and any Link enabled apps without ever using Live.
Unless you mean for Windows mobile, because link to midi will work on anything with midi clock send. It's just now you would be able to use it with an android or win mobile device. Should the devs be bothered that is...
Not really necessary. I'm using a Launchpad Pro with an ipad running the Launchpad app(It runs link and midi clock send simultaneously. Not many apps do.) So I have that slaving Traktor DJ on a MacBook pro and a Traktor S8 controller. I can then have any number of Link app on any number of ios devices hooked up through the S8. All tight like a tiger. Happy to post vid examples if requested.
Not to mention Live running underneath it all for additional channels. Having full tempo control at whatever device you're using at the time is a big plus.
Well, I still think hardware with LINK built in would be a dream. LINk lets us leave midi behind in the software domain, but if we want to sync hardware we have to introduce conversion software and midi pain. It ends up being more complex than before, not less.
Yes i do do this but then it ties up Link to Midi.
this is so much more musical than stupid midi-clock
