Working keyboard for Behringer IS202 and ipad

I bought the Behringer dock for ipad and I thought my prblem should be solved there because my iPad3 couldnt handle the camera kit connector to plug peripherals in. And I bought a M-Audio axiom air mini 32 and thought that would solve my keyboard issue. But it didnt work. I´ve tried to powersupply the keyboard through a powered USB-hub but that didnt work. I got the keyboard to lit up but it wouldnt connect to the Behringers USB-midi input.
To my question is there any keyboards out there that can be plugged to the Behringer IS 202 and work within my DAW (Auria Pro)???

  • Well the interface has midi ports, so any keyboard with midi out should work

You mean real midi. Not USB-midi! Any suggestions?!

Yes, usb out is usb out even if midi information is sent through it. You need midi out from keyboard. There are tons of them around

  • So M-Audio axiom air mini 32 was a bad choice of me!
    Thanks @ToMess

  • You could use one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00SDYO0Q0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474023536&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=usb+mini+b+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=31EbigsDgoL&ref=plSrch

Then plug a usb to midi keyboard interface cable cord adapter into it, and go directly into the standard midi in.

  • And will that power up my M-Audio axiom air mini 32?!

Sorry to say, but I think it was. I have the Behringer iStudio (is202) as well, its USB midi is a "To Host" connection (small square connector), and I'm not real sure of the tech difference, but I always thought that meant MIDI to/from a PC and not to/from a keyboard. I've not used that connection...yet, but due to your post I'm going to mess around with the USB midi on the iS202 and see what it can do.

Just FYI: In my setup, I have a powered Yamaha keyboard (MM6) with multiple type connections. For USB it has "to host" and a "to device" connector, plus the regular 5-din MIDI in and out, and audio out, of course. The "To Host" USB goes into my PC and it handles midi i/o while the regular midi in and out connections I have connected to the iS202. The "To Device" on my keyboard is for a USB Flash drive (not sure if it handles anything else).

Well, I doubt it will help with your issue but as I mess around, if I come across anything good, I'll let you know.

Nope. Midi ports doesent send anything else than the midi messages.

Im trying in Auria pro and changing settings. But I probably doing wrong or its not possible.

  • Do you have any iOS midi monitoring tools? If not, try MIDI Wrench by Christian Schoenebeck d/b/a Crudebyte
    https://appsto.re/us/UsYhJ.i
That can show if you've got a midi connection...among other things that it can do.

  • I also have istudio (2 of them). USB port is ONLY for connecting to PC. end of story.
    You have some options
-Sell the axiom and buy a keyboard with the classic Midi port.Connect with a midi cable to iStudio midi input.
-If you don't need istudio you could try:
iPad cck to powered hub and then plug (to the hub) your axiom keyboard.

    • if you have an iPhone try the previous connection with the iPhone instead of the iPad and route midi via Bluetooth from iPhone to the iPad (docked on iStudio)

    Hope it helps.

Not for the behringer Istudio, but the best kept secret in an ios compatible keyboard is the novation xio, you can find them used very cheap. I'm using one on my gig right now, although as standalone synth bass, not controlling my iPad. But, it's a great synth, plus a USB controller or 5 pin midi, plus a 2 in 2 out audio interface with mic preamp, and the usb also carries the synth audio direct if you wish.

Come to think of it though, since it has a 5 pin midi out you could use it with the behringer as a controller. It will run off of its own ac or batteries while plugged in via USB as well.

  • and it's small enough to take everywhere... use to have one, miss that thing

  • Do you guys think the Novation impulse 25 will work with the Behringer is202 then?!
The question is If the usb-b will do enough power.

  • No usb power from istudio . You will need external supply and a midi cable.

The usb port on it is for connecting to computer, not keyboards. Impulse 25 is a very nice keyboard for the price(friend has one), i would get the 49 or 61 instead 25 tho. But the problem is getting power to it while getting midi out of the midi ports. Maybe it could work with powered hub giving it power, while connecting to is202 via midi cables. But something working in theory doesent necessarily mean it works in real life. So i suggest asking around the internet if it can be powered like this. Kinda sucks that it doesent have plug for external power :/

If you're connecting to the istudio via midi then can't you use the usb on the keyboard for power, using a USB cable and power adapter? Or, as suggested to me in another thread, a power bank of you didn't want to plug another thing into the wall.

  • Ok thanks then I know.
But the Novation Remote 25sl mkii should work should it not!?

Yes. External powered and midi out cable.
