The ULTIMATE mic for IOS!!!!!!!!

Comments

  • Wow, a 1 foot diaphragm? Awesome!! ;)

Actually, I've used a 15" speaker to mic a kick drum before, it was a cool sound.

  • the MK4 never fulfilled the expectations Sennheiser put onto it ;)

  • Ultimake mic for ios is the same mic for anything else. Get a proper audio interface with good preamps and xlr mic if you want a good mic. There is no way some usb mic is on the same level.

  • I tend to agree with you, @ToMess, but it's Apogee (the best AD/DA maker in the world) teaming with Sennheiser (the best headphone maker in the world). Unless this is some cheap, low end gizmo, it deserves the interest it generates.

The Apogee MiC is a decent microphone, beating any low cost condenser you compare against it IMO. I expect this one to be better, not in the level of a, say, Neumann U87, but comparable to the likes of an AKG 414.

  • I can see the appeal in iOS mics, I have a couple myself. But the timing is kind of strange given the death of 3.5. Who wants a mic you can't monitor?

  • Well, that makes sense if you have an iPhone 7. But if I recall correctly, the Apogee MiC used to have a 3.5 out. Perhaps that's the case here.

Yea but ad converters arent the only thing you need for the ultimate sound, you need proper preamps as well. This is why decent studios have dedicated rack mic preamps, besides having good audio interfaces.

  • Well, I myself am old school and use my U87 through an Avalon preamp for most of my vocal recordings, @ToMess . The signal is then fed to the Apogee Duet and then to Auria Pro (mostly) or Logic Pro X (occasionally). So I hear you. On the other hand, what bars anyone from feeding the recorded track to a preamp as well, and then return it to the DAW of choice? Did it quite a few times and works just the same.

Well if you want to go really anal about it, you want to stay away from any extra DA conversions. So recording it straight through the preamp would be the best, but i dont think anyone would hear the difference anyways..

  • The mic houses both the Apogee preamp and converters.. Sure I can get a better mic if I carry around an interface but it's an extra step.. This remains the best mic in iOS format though..

  • Apogee mic is awesome but it's a small diaphragm

  • Bottom line.. Apogee mic96 is almost "it". This brings it one step closer.

you know that Sennheiser is the mother company of Neumann ? ;)
and even produces the Mics at it's factory in Wenebostel

The Apogee MiC is a decent microphone, beating any low cost condenser you compare against it IMO.

no way... they spoiled their own party by the pretentious LDC fake design
not a single quality SDC mic has a housing like that and there may be a reason...
capsule design is more than a membrane and an electrode

you probably mean the AKG C214, which is on the same price range and adresses the same audience...
while the C214 is in the top 20 of sales results at Thomann, the MK4 is in the bottom half at number 58 - which is plain horror given the reputation of Sennheiser versus Harman's cheapos
