DM1 with MIDI controller

Anyone done MIDI in to control DM1 with a hardware pad or keyboard controller?

I did it today with my MPK Mini and once I assigned the pads via the MIDI Learn function in DM1 it rocked... But then it got all messed up.

If I bump a knob or piano key on the MPK it makes the drums go haywire. Like, the pads still play but they repeat at a high rate and act erratic.

It doesn't seem to matter what knob I fiddle with, all of them cause the same effect. To get it back to normal I have to disconnect the MPK and restart DM1, then try not to bump anything other than the pads that I mapped.

Its like the non-mapped keys and knobs are sending MIDI controls to other functions, like repeat or delay or something, but I don't know how or why, as I see no way to map those in DM1 if I wanted to.

Thoughts?

  • I think I have the same problem. I guess Dm1 got stuck on a pad, for example, and whatever you trigger it plays this pad also. The same goes when I'm moving knobs or play keys, it triggers this pad. Knob turning result in some crazy noise sounds like repeat or delay. If you look on the screen you'll see that one of the pads triggering lie a crazy. First I thought my mpk mini is broken, but then I saw the same results with arturia minilab, and then even without midi controller, triggering pads on the ipad screen. Seems like it's not even midi problem - it is a general DM1 app bug. That's a shame, cause the app is great, but it became unusable for me. I don't want to do this disconnect trick on a live show.

  • Would it help if you assigned the knobs to cc's that aren't recognized by DM1? At least as an experiment. I have not tried triggering DM 1 yet, but it sounds like I should explore the possibilities.
