Somewhat OT: Do I need to keep my boomboxes?

So, I'm in Maine emptying/sorting/discarding/keeping a whole house load of stuff. The kept stuff (a minimum hopefully) will be put on a truck back to Texas and (for now) put in storage, the cost of which (moving and storing) is helping to focus the mind.

I have two boomboxes; a Panasonic and a Sony, both good, both expensive, both largely unused these past ten years. Cassette decks, CDs, Radios etc. Keep them or not? Useful or not?

  • Sell them to hipsters.

  • Largely unused in 10 years...

  • Link? AB/IAA? You know the rules...

  • Keep, we have 4 or 5. My kids love em. Not real expensive ones though.

I'm surprised no one's encouraged you to record loops to cassette for real tape saturation yet. :-) But like @lukesleepwalker said there are rules to be considered that may or may not align with Mrs Goodyears opinions about how long to keep items in the archive

  • i still have a panasonic rx-c300 (google it). mint. purchased late 80s (87?) i keep it for nostalgia and that its super rare.

if you need the space, sell it. you will not miss it. there is a dedicated boombox forum where you can sell it if you want to.

Damn you, you cold and heartless unsentimental bastards. I was relying on at least 80% Man Support For Needless Electronic Items. Ah well.....into the dumpster I guess. No time or energy to sell them. I guess you're right @lukesleepwalker, No AB: No Chance.

  • Are you abandoning Maine or just cleaning house? Oh, and let the boom boxes go, or stop by Brooklyn on the way home, lots of hipsters there.

  • KEEP THEM!
One day you will need them :)

  • Give them away.

  • If either of them have an aux in, keep it and use it for checking how your songs sound on a shitty stereo. It can be helpful during mastering.

  • I'd keep'm and do my own interpretation of the "boom box experiment" a la Flaming Lips

  • Give them to a charity :)

    +1++!!
There are endless womens' shelters, halfway/rehab houses, etc., I know someone less fortunate would much appreciate some music/news/entertainment.
    Don't do da dumpster, dude!

  • The Charity Shop it is. Oftentimes I think that the collective mind here is somewhat like Jimminy Cricket; wise and nagging away and mostly morally good despite the air guitar :)

  • Ask Sargent Boombox

  • Yesterday this thread inspired me to look up Radio Raheem and I watched a couple clips. Looks like he just died today.

Realized that I completely got rid of mine along time ago, and now kind of regret it too.

  • Heck, I just got done putting my component system together.
