  • I use mostly synths. Sometimes I'll throw in a piano sound or organ or a plucked bass guitar thing. But leaning more and more towards all synths.

On the iPad, often orchestral, usually with Notion's own LSO samples. Real not fake. Synthetic however

When not orchestral, on the iPad, usually synthesis from synth apps. Occasionally (at least occasionally with the iPad, more often with the desktop), live instrument recording from guitar, voice, synths. Those are real. Well, of course, unless one thinks that real virtual analog synths are not as real as real analog synths and therefore VA is fake and only analog is real  , but I use both of those and both are synthetic. Neither is fake. The acoustic guitar and voice are not synthetic, but then I apply compression and EQ to those too so, perhaps they become synthetic eventually.

Hard to tell isn't it ?

  • I was really surprised the quality of music that imitates real instruments on a jazz piece I recently did on Gadget.

I was astounded the soulful fee that one app could have in what was an intense little jazz jam.

It so awesome to be around as the technology allows making such music with relative ease. Amazing times we live in

    I WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY:

I meant do you use Sampled "REAL INSTRUMENTS" as emulate real instruments in your music or is your sound made electronic synths and abstract sonic expressions.

    good point
Most of the hi-hats and snares on my iPad projects are employed as one would typically apply a hi-hat and snare sample. With the snares, I would then layer an iOS synth and create a patch to fit around the sample to give it more depth, etc.
With the string & wind instrument samples I would take more artistic liberty; chopping and processing the sound to oblivion.
