Group The Loop update

Here's the latest from the dev:

I'm hoping to get the update out as soon as possible but for now here is the full new features overview.

What's new in GTL version 1.3:

• Ableton Link
• Flexible tempo - Change tempo after loop creation.
• Pitch and time stretch tempo algorithms.
• Inter-app audio connections to input stream.
• New drop down clock settings view - Tap the clock status bar to quickly access tempo, time signature and Ableton Link settings.
• AudioShare import now supports more audio formats. (Inc. wav, caf, m4a, mp3, aif).
• Advanced audio export options. Choose file format, sample rate, bit depth and more.
• “Open in” support. Import audio files directly from any other app with the “open in” option e.g AudioShare, Mail.
• Many other improvements and bug fixes.

  • oh man, this looks tasty... it's either cubasis or this for me... need to decide

  • Do not miss the Cubasis sale what ever you do.

Apples and oranges, really. Cubasis is a full-fledged DAW whereas GTL is really aimed at a more simplified looping experience.

  • Group the Loop and Blocs Wave and Loopy are all from the same evolutionary branch, would you say?

Yes, I'd say that is fairly accurate, although I use them for different use cases.

  • I already got GTL and I'm liking it! But now I'm also very much looking forward to Loopy MP, which must be pretty close.

of course but, I don't need a daw or a looper, but both of them would work well for sample collage which is how I will apply them.

a legend at this point, I'm on pins and needles

Started to get all excited, then realized not universal, no iPhone support :(
LoopTree has yet to get Link, other than that, how does Group the Loop compare to that?

I think Blocs is slightly different in that GTL and Loopy are from the live sound-on-sound tape loop tradition (ala frippertronics) whereas Blocs seems more evolved from music concrete.

Looking forward to spending more time with GTL. I should just use the google but can someone tell me if it has solid foot pedal/external MIDI control support? Can't remember.

Agreed that Blocs is a bit more of an outlier. Just depends how long that evolutionary branch is...

The MIDI support in GTL is nascent, I'd say. It's a decent start but Jack states in his own forum that he intends to refine the MIDI support next after those release. A good decision.

  • cheers @lukesleepwalker. Still aim to give it a proper work out.

I'd value a paragraph from you when you have.
