Beta test apps expire?

Hi

Maybe a newbie question but just realized that an app I did some beta testing stopped working, I think after the 60 days it was mentioned in the test flight. So this means this is the end?

Comments

  • Yes, It means the 'beta period' is over...
I think the expiration date can be set by the developer.
(I've tested some with 30 days and some with 60).

If you did a good job testing some developers are nice enough to send a promo-code as a 'reward' :)
(I got one for FingerBeat even though I had already planned to buy it since it got so many of my requests included).

You have some options, contact the developer and ask him/her to send a new beta, buy the app, or delete and forget you ever had it...

  • Ooh, Derriks drum app is in beta and should drop soonish.hopefully.

  • For the time being will keep it there just in case but thanks Samu. Actually I believe I did quite a good job but hey, maybe it was just crap...they didnt give me a promo code even I asked for it...

What app was it that you were testing?

  • Here's a question: I'm a bad beta tester. I had every intention to help the devs, but I got busy. I would imagine that Beathawk will just vanish, but I had already owned Elastic. What will happen to that, I wonder? I'll just redownload when the beta expires?

That is what I do when a 'beta' becomes 'final' ie. re-download it from the AppStore over-writing the beta.
Sometimes the AppStore downloads the 'old'(purchased) version so it will need an update after initial download.

You don't have to quit testing, but if you go back to a paid app, it's sometimes better to delete the beta as you would normally an app and download fresh.

You would have gotten help anyways, betas are betas...
My list of beta-testing is shortish: FingerBeat, SidTracker64, (short period)for BeatHawk, DRC and Ruismaker FM.

As long as apps are not covered by NDA I'll be happy to assist anyone who needs help :)

  • I wouldn't worry with that company, their apps seem as if they are forever in beta... ;)
but, to each their own and you would have gotten an honest answer anyway.

  • I'm having the same issue: I have Unrealbook, it's a great app for sheet music and music pdfs, I was beta testing, it's expired and the dev hasn't returned my emails, I don't want to delete it because all my good piano books are there, and I can't back it up.....I'm really stumped.....

  • I'm not 100% sure, but can't you go into TestFlight and select "Stop testing" and then install the regular version from the appstore? That will not erase your documents folder as far as I know. (Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure on this, but that's how I remember it working for me when I was on the Cubasis beta. I still have all my pre-beta documents going from 1.9.x -> 2.0 beta -> 2.0 public release).

Stop testing means you won't get any other chances to test it though. Best to keep it on and just delete from the app icon and reload your bought app.

True, but that will delete your documents. So once the test phase is over I guess it's safe to stop testing, right?

Often we end up retesting apps. A bit of an ongoing process.

Sometimes I'm able to test some apps all the time, sometimes not (life throws curve balls) ;)
