Ghost MIDI CC From MOD WHEEL?

Novation Launchkey 49

Keeps jumping 10 or so - no touch . On its own.

I think this problem was minor but all of a sudden and it is disrupting entire workflow.

Appreciate any help.

  • It could be the pot is dirty, that the modwheel is attached to. With audio, dirty pots sound like scratchy sound that cuts out. Or crackles. With controllers it can be more mysterious. The dirt might make the midi controller think you are moving the wheel when you aren't, because the voltage from the pot is jumping around from the flaky connection.

You can work out the dirt temporarily just by working the wheel back and forth a bunch. More permanent solution is cleaning it, or finding a replacement and soldering it in.
