I don't understand what I'm looking at here and I want to! I sorta thought Taktech's Web MIDI Browser was dead in the water so I'm very glad to see it working but yeah, I'm confused on what you're actually routing where and how WMB is being used. Modstep MIDI to Web MIDI Browser app to a web synth on your desktop?
Have you been able to get it to control anything else? I ask because he created both that FM synth as well as the Web MIDI Browser and maybe they're both using the older Web MIDI protocol (which is what I was assuming the last few times I tried to get WMB to work).
I use the Web MIDI Browser app - open up the Web FM Synthesizer via the in-app Browser (iOS not desktop, just to be clear - no need for any desktop here. I haven't tried yet with any other tools - will do so soon. The Web MIDI Browser (as you see in new vid) also supports SysEX, so I'd like to experiment next to see what SysEx can be sent from the iPad to the Web - and from desktop (via Network Session + SNoize SysEx Librarian) to the Web MIDI Browser. Here's quick video showing better w/ split screen of Modstep/Web MIDI Browser (sorry for the hasty MIDI bell sounds!)
That's pretty cool!
Thanks! Was just wondering - since Web MIDI Browser is an app - could it get an IAA wrapper, or AudioBus Compatibility? Then it would effectively be a Web MIDI Host too - and there are several Web MIDI pages (apps?) that already have Hosting Capability for other Web MIDI pages. Presets/Triggers/AB Remote would be great here too... maybe?
Definitely an interesting idea!
Well this is interesting - Novation Circuit Components - Connects up to the browser. Have been able to download and overwrite - but not upload, yet.
Web Bluetooth works as well - Set up Web MIDI Browser as Central, then connecting App as MIDI peripheral. In my case I set up w/ AC Sabre controlling the Web FM Synth. Still haven't tested any others. I do notice that I get some latency when sending MIDI out to Web MIDI (even on desktop) - I don't think it can handle the volume. With AC Sabre, which has a % of MIDI-to-send per motion type - set at only sending about 10% - still get some occasional latency.
Wait, what? You can program the Circuit synths and download samples to it from Web MIDI Browser?
Some things yes, some things no: Here's a screenshot of the Web MIDI Browser document picker... pretty cool:
And here's the error message you get when trying to upload a Sample Set, maybe some Code Guru here can figure this out:
That is sweet, thanks for the screen shots. So sample loading doesn't work but the synth programming UI does?
@blocsxnovation Closest thing to working on iOS I've ever heard of. Maybe someone on your team has the bandwidth to take it the extra 1/2 mile?
PS. What happened to @launchpadforios user account?
