Final verdict IOS 10 yes/no/holding out

My iPhone 5s is on IOS 10 and running like a champ!

I'm still holding out on the IPad till Auria gets it working.

  • 5s 16Gb?

I own one 5s 16Gb and iPad still running iOS 9.3.5.

Please, convince me why I should update my iPhone. :)

I was not intending to update but got "tricked" into updating the iPad Air 2 by being too quick to unlock the device after asks to update, then says it will do it automatically between a certain time. On other devices, i clicked the option to hold off but it will keep nagging even after deleting the update file.

No reason to update but If you are going to update I would try not to update both devices. That way if one of your favorite apps update and you find something unusual you can see if it has to do with the iOS version.

  • Thanks, good advice.

  • I dont see any reason to upgrade

  • Whoa how do you delete the update file? The bastards snuck that thing in my phone last night and now I'm short on space.

  • I always update immediately. Auria has been working fine for me, except for IAA stuff not showing up.

You can find the update file to delete under settings, general, storage &icloud usage, manage storage.

Don't worry, it will automatically re-download some time later!

  • iOS 10 deleted all my apps!!!.

  • I wanted to check if my Alesis IO Dock would remain functional after the update. For taking the least risks as possible I updated my Iphone 5S and connected it to Alesis IO dock. Good news are that the Alesis Remains functional at least with Iphone. Maybe in the future, when fed up of Apple reminders, I will then update my Ipad.

  • I updated my 6s, but not my Air 2.

The good: I do really like the raise to wake thing, it saves me pressing a button to check the time, or see what's playing. Can also unlock the phone without fully pressing the home button.

The bad: the music app is getting worse with every release. Star ratings are gone, and now the phone won't remember what playlist was last playing, so when I plug my headphones in it just starts shuffling through my entire collection rather than resuming the last playlist that was playing. Oh yeah, and for some reason the OS decided to delete all my stored songs.

It's frustrating because my listening habits are ingrained from using iPods since the very first iPod mini back in 2003. The old devices were much more reliable and less annoying to use. The latest iOS just pisses me off because it falls over doing the relatively simple task of letting me listen to my music.

Sometimes I have all my apps gone on the desktop, I reboot and they're back :)

I won't update to IOS 10, seems there's issue with my Iconnect Audio 4.

  • On my side, I see no reason to update my iPad Air 2 (only Apple Device I own)... I use it for music only and from the feed-back I got on iOS10, I understood that it does not bring any improvement on music making or files management but it does impact significantly your battery life (negatively) wich is really bad for me as I already see my battery go down very fast with apps such as Gadget or Cubasis...

  • I'll stay in iOS9 for a while, even after Auria gets updated for iOS10 compatibility.

  • I've been on 10 for a while on iPad mini 2 - only prob I have encountered is the known IAA issue in Auria....everything else I use seems to be working perfectly.

What about your battery life ? Did you identify any difference ?

  • My Air 2 is running fine when, after debating for almost 2 years to update from 8.4, I went to 9.3.5.

I'm staying put unless my essential apps like Auria, DrumPerfect, etc will only work on iOS 10+. Right now everything is working okay, so I'm not going to press it. Even when Derek Jones great articles on iOS 9 were saying that iOS 9 was safe it took me a long time to warm up to jumping up to 9, so I'm cool where I'm at.

I'll be listening to you guys who made the jump. I'm sure in theory the Air 2 is stout enough to handle iOS10 but I still feel a device is created with the OS it's released with in mind and it is going to run best on one version (maybe two) removed from the original. The R&D for a generation of a device like an iPad and the R&D for updates are two different animals.

  • Meh. Upgraded the iphone 5S, but not the iPad Air 2 until Auria Pro's fix is out.

I can't see even one feature of the "biggest upgrade ever" that I care even a little about. Battery life seems worse, but I always think that after every upgrade. Not sure by objective measure if it's true. I bow to the inevitable but wish they would just leave everything the hell alone.

  • I'm going to stick on iOS with my iPad4. Digitech's iPB-10 and it's companion app have been discontinued, so I would likely end up breaking it past iOS9. Speaking of....is anyone else out there using the iPB-10?

  • Don't get too crazy please. I've known iOS musicians (no names or social media site where that happened) stll on iOS 6 (by that time we where on iOS 9) for no particular reason just crazy paranoia that something might break.
Others stuck on an ipad 2 or an iphone 4s waiting for the definitive hardware upgrade (which of course will never happen)

Im in favor of sticking to hardware as long as you can, and also in favor of waiting before updating but at one point some people start to become irrational.

  • Still practicing my new access code on my new iPhone 6s (avoiding the headphones snafu for a while) while holding out. I'll succumb to it soon enough, but if it ain't broke I don't fix it (right away)...

Apart from the odd dabble in lunch break, I'm pretty much plugged in, so I haven't noticed.....this raises a very good point, when we talk to each other we tend to think we all use the hardware and software in the same way....we'll to start wth anyway, and then what I like about this forum happens. We learn from each other, and then pass it on.

  • Haven't heard of any reason to upgrade.

  • iOS 10 has so many awesome, game-changing features. I upgraded my phone, and some day when I have nothing better to do, I'll try to figure out what these new features do that I need to make my life even more wonderful. Judging by the past, my iPad might get updated to 10 around the time 11 comes out.

    Sold!

  • Running well on my 5s, not touching my iPad though

  • Good news, I deleted the ios10 update file from my iPad a few days ago to stop the prompts- no iOS 10 on here until auria is ready. Ios10 is fine on my phone, but no auria on my phone ever so no worries there. Well, I just got a prompt and lo and behold, the update had downloaded again. I just deleted it again. I guess my iPad will go in airplane mode at night until auria is ready. Between this and some network difficulties in Sierra on my MacBook Air, causing me to not be able to get on my network drive at work and needing to sign into the printer for every document I print (not sure if either one is a bug or a feature, and sometimes that line is hard to see...), I'm a little less than happy with apple today.

If you tap with two fingers in the little doodle thing in messaging, it fires off a lipstick kiss to the other party. Just like that baby!

Apple has clearly brought us to the height of civilization. I don't see how anyone will ever top that. Gonna be boring from now on.
