Smallest interface for iPhone into iPad. Options?
Currently researching something for me to get synced audio into my iPad from the iPhone or viceversa. Smallest, most portable option. Is there a way for the phone to appear in say cubasis as a plugin instrument, using I guess link or something for sync? I connected them with the cck3 and the photo album synced but I see no audio linking. Will one of the smaller iconnectivity devices do this without an attached a computer Or just straight audio out and in? With maybe the korg or the zoom devices. Extra points for USB midi control into the iPhone so I can play it with a controller.

Not the smallest, but the Behringer UCA202 or UCA222 could be what you're looking for. You might want to check out Audiobus Remote and Audreio, too.
@vpich - with out going analog somewhere in the connection path, I think iConnectAUDIO4+ (not exactly small) is the only one I've read about that connects 2 iOS devices together, and it also supports Midi, 5pin Din and USB (so it says). There are some long and maybe ongoing discussion here on the forum about iConnectivity.
Smallest would be to find a cable that would go from your headphone out on the iphone (presuming you still have one!) and plug into your ipad interface. If you're not using an interface you can use the built in mic input but a) you'll need the sort of cable that will allow you to also plug headphones into the ipad end so you can monitor the whole shebang and b) it will be a mono signal. Then use one of the bluetooth or wifi MIDI apps and/or LINK for sync.
If you can find one, the Blue Digital Mikey is smaller than a credit card (thicker though) and plugs directly into your lightning port so no cables. It sports an analog stereo input so with a 1/8 stereo cable you can go iphone to ipad in stereo. Sounds great. Plus, handy to have a decent microphone. I used this set up a while in the reverse (capturing ipad synths into Loopy on the iphone before the heady days of Audiobus) and it worked and sounded great. They're probably under $50 at this point.
Yeah, on my shortlist but can't find anywhere if this works without a laptop to route stuff
Audiobus remote, gotta look into it. But i thought it was to control apps on same device, what does it do for separate ios devices?
Are you a spoiled Apple child who expects everything to be plopped on your lap?

Yes. Haven't had time today to really search and you guys seem to be on it. Thanks
Well, this is the Audiobus forum, and I have to sell, sell, sell, or the boss will have my hide. He's already breathing down my neck about "customer service" or some such.
Sell me. I got the cash but that might work. With a simple midi interface. Maybe
I don't know how complicated your setup is, but you may want to start a new thread on the subject of Audiobus Remote and your particulars. I suggest searching the forum first using your favorite 3rd party search engine.
Cool. Found an early thread. i have complicated setups setup. A whole studio's worth. But i love composing in gadget on my phone and would love to do more stuff in iphone and ipad alone
There are some smart cookies here. Don't be afraid to put forth your toughest nut to crack. Please excuse all the food based idioms.
For audio between devices I have the Behringer UCA-222, but it isn't the smallest. I was browsing at a flea mart a few months ago and found this really small USB audio interface for $2: http://www.sybausa.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=695
My ultra-portable sampling setup consists of the Syba USB audio interface, Lightning-to-USB adapter and a Sansa Clip+ mp3 player recorder with 64Gb of samples(Rockbox firmware), which also has an FM radio so I can sample from that as well.
Whew, you are taking me BACK, my friend!
First, I the Clip+. I own 2 of them. One with and one without SD card slot. I haven't tried Rockbox on them, though.
I did use Rockbox on an old Archos Jukebox Recorder of mine, and I really liked it.
You can definitely route audio and midi through two iOS devices without a PC or Mac. As the saying goes... there's an app for that!
Cool, well i bought audiobus remote and imagine that will accomplish whati wanted anyways. Definitely the most portable option. Will try it sometime this week.
