What is the best way to export Slices on iOS in order to import to ModStep Sample Pads.

I love AbuDabi in Korg Gadget, but I was wondering if there was anything like Simpler for Live on iOS. Many thanks

  • Samplr is the best sampler available for iOS.

  • Have you looked into Samplr or Blocs Wave?

  • While blocs wave and Samplr are my favorite, i think it's wouldn't be up his/her alley if they're looking for something similiar to Simpler.

What about the sampler in Caustic 3? I don't have it but I've seen videos. And coming from Live, the OP may enjoy caustic 3?

The OP says s/he loves Abu Dhabi, so I was thinking in terms of the marriage of the two.

  • I'm just now noticing that @1P18 ninja'd me. Sneaky bastard.

  • Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for something I can control via Midi as well. I love being able to trigger sample events via my Circuit and NanoKeyStudio. I have BlocsWave and while I love it, I want to trigger I via midi. I should have been more specific. I have Samplr as welll...but it's been eons since using it.

And for the polite gender minded amongst you, it is 'he' ;^)

    Cheers,

  • So here's another question...what's the best tool to export individual slices from a Sample to multiple files. I figured that I could use ModStep Sampler, and load these exported slices to the built in Pads in ModStep and play from there...

I was messing around with duplicating a Sample to multiple pads, and repositioning the playhead...but honestly...it's not very precise.

    Many thanks in advance,

I suggest editing your thread title. Most here don't know what Simpler is.

    How's that :)

Looks good to me. Hopefully, that will get you some good feedback.

  • Yeah...i hope...i just want something like Recycle on iPad under iOS 10.

  • If you use blocs wave and load the same sample onto each pad, you can set the loop points individually or use the slicer and play/record the slices that you want, and then export the pads.

What about iMPC Pro? I'm always surprised by the hate that Retronyms gets here. But this does exactly what you want. Plus it has midi learn, so you could trigger the pads from within Modstep.

I agree that some have been over the top, but this is the Audiobus forum. Audiobus and Retronyms go back a ways in iOS music making history. Some don't like the lack of Audiobus in Retronyms apps, some don't like the Tabletop environment, and original iMPC owners may feel their patronage was not appreciated.

It really doesn't matter much what we say about Retronyms here. The iMPCs continue to be top sellers. When you've got the Akai brand and the MPC name, it's an easy sell.

  • I definitely missed the Great Schism of 2008 (or whenever it was). But iMPC is pretty amazing. I know it doesn't have AB, which is weird, but it does have IAA. And am I correct about midi learn?

Dunno, probably. There may also be resentment that the Retronyms reps only seem to show up when they want to hawk their goods. I recall the iProphet dev to be a fine chap, however.

Yeah...i just realized that. :) Looking @ it now...It just might work...ok...i think this thread is closed. Thanks for the info everyone! Off to learn iMPC Pro on iPad :)

  • Slicing, saving and sending in bulk to other apps would be in my top 5 feature requests for the 'maybe one day' Kymatica Audio Editor @j_liljedahl hinted at.

An app doesn't really need to even support slicing to get the functionality we all want. The SFZ format (among others) supports multiple pointers within a single file. That would actually be preferable to me—a single file with an app to insert markers. Then apps like ModStep, Patterning, etc could just read those markers and assign them to pads/tracks.

  • SFZ for the win!

I personally prefer to slice my samples in Beat Maker 2... Just set the slices points, export chop to files, load them to Dropbox in 1 mn and then use them where you want.

I have BM2, but it's always given me a headache to use....but i'll dust it off and see what it offers as well.

    Thanks,

Not the most intuitive and looking more and more 'retro' but I never found a better and more efficient tool on iOS to manipulate sample and loops, particularly to slice them... which is kind of a shame IMHO as BM2 is getting old and is not good on the import/export and stability (it reboots every time you sitch to another app for ex.)... I wonder why no other devs have proposed something better than this since then...

  • there's allot of slicers out there, which feature is it that puts bm2 over the top for you?

Give us your recommendation(s) with some sound reasoning, and I might tell you. :*

Well after much playing and noodling...i think i'll just stick with BlocsWaves to play music via Sliced Samples.

I used iMPCPro to do some composing, but it's stability and constant crashing and losing of my Slice edits kind of broke my spirit.

In contrast, when I opened and performed in BlocsWave, it just got out of the way and let me play play play. I'll continue using it and benefitting from the updates...here's hoping for Per Channel FX or at least AU support in the future :)

Thanks again everyone for the feedback.

FWIW, you can do a lot of Sample/Slicing/Chopping in FingerBeat...but it just gets too hard to hit those tiny pie shaped slivers in the circular pads...but it's supported in that fun app :)

  • if the impc pro ran like that on my iPad I'd drop it like a hot potato too, fortunately it only crashes for me if I run animoog via iaa or go nuts with the flux pad fx. Blocs is on a good path, once it gets the ability to have individual parameters per slice I'll be able to make it more useful in my process. all of these slicers that slice samples and don't allow you to do different things to the individual slices need to have some holy water thrown on them.... including my beloved, darling, Samplr

Another win for Team Retronyms! Hurray!
