Novation LaunchPad: IOS Compatibility
What models work with IOS devices?
Better question, which models work BEST with IOS devices?
What about powering the Launchpad? How do you do it?
Do you use it with any addition devices?
What kind(s) hub do you use?
Thanks for feedback!
If I missed anything, let er rip.

Any USB MIDI controller that is "class compliant" should work. Class compliant means it does not need drivers.
I suggest both a powered and non-powered USB hub to have all your bases covered. I usually just go to Amazon and look at the best sellers in that category and decide from there. You'll definitely want a powered hub for the Launchpad. You'll also need a CCK (camera connection kit) or lightning camera adapter depending on your iDevice.
I am using a Launchpad MkII with my iPad Mini 2 on iOS 10...I have it plugged into a belkin powered hub and it works perfectly. I also use my Circuit and a LaunchControl XL and my audio interface all on the same hub.
The LP MK1 and S models along with the LP Mini only have Red/Yellow/Green lights, the MK II has the RGB lights like the Pro does so will match up with the LP App
I have a Mini and a Pro. The Mini can be powered by the iPad through the CCK, but only in low power (dimmer lights) mode. The Pro must be plugged into AC to connect to an iPad through the CCK, but I found if you then unplug the AC it will stay powered up, though it's probably draining the battery and nowhere is this recommended .
DC, surely?
anyone tried with a circuit ?
Is this what you're talking about?
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/15515/how-are-you-using-your-novation-circuit-w-your-ipad-or-anything-else/p1
I don't know, man. You guys have those weird round plugs across the pond.
Tried what with a circuit ? I use my circuit with iOS all the time.
It is an AC adapter that outputs DC
What is difference of PRO vs. regular model if using with IPAD?
The RGB lights, as previously mentioned. Check this thread: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/14838/new-launchpad-pro-update
Oh I thought we were talking of Launchpad app...
So, let me rephrase my question, is circuit compatible with that Launchpad app?
Can you launch clips from your circuit ?
And does any of you circuit owners know if Novation is planning
to keep on updating it with new firmwares ?
It's such a brilliant groove box/midi controller!
The Pro has velocity on the pads whereas the rest of the lineup do not.
Yeah, that's pretty huge.
Agreed.
Deal breaker and worth $50 bucks US
Also the Pro can be used as a stand alone controller for external gear without needing a computer, it also has the scale modes
I don't think you can use circuit to control Launchpad app, well at least when I'm using my Launchpad with the app and Circuit at the same time, the circuit does not trigger sounds from Launchpad.
Circuit is really a work horse piece of kit with so many uses already as well as being a really good groovebox. I use mine all the time for controlling apps, and using the step sequencer. Use it synced to the LP app for some great time-sucking fun
The non-touch Launchpads are advertised as clip launchers so, technically, don't need touch or velocity sensitivity. Novation created a monster by accident -- Launchpads becoming instruments in their own right -- thus the upgrades to the Pro, including touch and velocity sensitivity and making the clicky-feeling buttons into performance pads.
And, make no mistake, if you're trying to use a Launchpad as an instrument it has the complexity that goes along with any instrument.
