is this replicating some hardware synth,...mostly, or more a well rounded va? what does it excel at?
i ask this, because i am trying to minimize my synth options so i can really get to know these. i currently am mostly using synth sounds from gadget, moog 15 and cubasis minilogue. the only hardware synth i have kept is my elektron analog keys. best decision i ever made was to sell the teenage op1 to get the ipad pro.
As far as I can see its kind of taking hints from various Roland synths. The LP Filter and Resonance are easily among the best i heard on iOS so far.
I think I read the developer said it's roughly based on the JD-990 which is a digital synth, not sure if it's technically a VA.
That it's AU makes me want it. That it doesn't have MIDI control of parameters makes me not.
All paramaters are available via AUParameters if you host it in modSTEP
AUM has a large list of parameters available for midi control of Poison 202
I don't know why I have been late to buy this synth (Poison 202)...
Holy moses! This is great and sounds great!
Have not tested yet as an AU, but, I glad that it also an stand alone synth-app...
That's something, for sure. Thanks. Are those exposed in Cubasis as well?
I have now tested Poison 202 as an AU in Auria Pro...
It seems light on CPU when I layered four instances of Poison... ;-)
Together with Fabfilter Timeless 2 you can make incredible sounds and effects in Auria... Fabfilter is really high quality!
It seems that AU is coming strong this fall...
Yes! We can't forget these awesome updates!! IAA (with Transport bar) works great!!! I love it!!!
I'm not sure that helps me who likes to twiddle knobs when sound designing
I know the developer said that it is based in another Roland synth, but it is very similar to my hardware Roland Gaia. Love it!
It sounds like there is a MIDI spec since the latest update says "Midi controller CC64 (Hold Pedal) is now supported" but since there's no manual I can find there's nothing documented.
Perhaps those seeing routings in other apps are merely uncovering what's already there. Is it possible to post a screengrab from AUM of MIDI-able paramters? (I've never used AUM so I don't know how conveniently it displays that information.)
Maybe we'll see 'Midi-Learn' in a a future update. There is like over 100 parameters available.
(If you host Poison-202 in AUM you can use midi-mapping map any midi-cc to any available au-prameter).
This is likely only for the container app, but not for the AU plugin.
AUM allows you to map MIDI CC codes to AU Parameters in case the plugin itself does not implement MIDI controllers itself, which seems to be the case here. The nice thing about AU Parameters is that they have meaningful names instead of numbers... so you don't have to peek at MIDI cheatsheets anymore.. Unfortunately most iOS AU hosts do not fully implement AU Parameter control yet.
Wow, thanks!
I thought it would reveal defaults for at least some of them, like CC#7 for master volume. Or CC#64 for Hold Pedal, which we know is in there.
Ooh really? I nearly bought one of those. This app is saying 'buy me' even louder now...
Thanks and thanks @samu. That restricts external control to AUM. Would have to remap in other apps. Too lazy (and too rich with synths). I'll hold out.
I saw that the developer registered here and posted as of early September so I asked him a question directly about the MIDI spec that can be used with Poison as an AU so if I get a response I'll repost it.
It freezes GarageBand and have to restart every time.
Tried it with Auria Pro? GarageBand currently has a bug with AUx.
It's a confirmed bug with Garageband. Took me a week of pulling my hair out to find it for them (I thought it was an issue with my Phasemaker AU): GB doesn't like AUx with more than 95 AU parameters.. It will be solved in an upcoming version.
It's nice to draw automations in Auria Pro with it as well. Really for myself, its main lacking feature is bank save. Lack of bank save stops me trusting it for programming my own sounds
Wow, just updated this, and I really like how the preset browser changed. Much much easier to use. I still can't believe this synth is less than 10 mb. That's flipping crazy. Such a small footprint.
I'm having trouble changing preset names on my own patches, I know it's right in front of me but I can't find out how! Other than that I'm loving this app, it's making creating sounds easier!
Go to the patch screen by pressing the patch button, 4th down on the left, then there is a rename button.
How does one use this synth? It seems a little too dry and clean. Do you add outboard effects to add character?
Got it! Thank you so much! With the ease of programming poison I knew I had better figure this out fast!
