What's going on with the Hook App?
anybody?

Comments
It's half price rn
have you used it recently?
I asked them to add users folders and they use to release 'Hook ready' sample packs: disappointed
I've never used it, don't own it.
Crashes ALL the time. Really bad quality
Take time and send them an email about your concerns and recommendations.
I am working on a requested synopsis and corrective ideas for the app.
Some of my ideas:
IAA vs. Audiobus
MPC integrations
Tabletop AU host
New Platform to use in an EASY way IAA and AU along with Hook.
For me its ease of use and communication. HOOK is difficult to integrate.
They don't need that whole effects page either.
Streamline it like Launchpad or similar app.
I tried the Hook demo, and never got on with it, I never grasped the proper concept of it, it looked good in the videos.....but I couldn't get it to do what I wanted.
This re-enforces what @RustiK says, ease of use is a must.....Hook is not alone in this, ModStep is an immensely powerful tool, but a lot of people struggle to get to grips with it.
It doesn't mean the app is bad, just not intuitive for some people.
HOOK literally is a break thru in the DJ performance creative crossover platform making it fun and creative.
However, in a vacuum..........it just is lost.
Developers need to realize there is not 1 way people use apps. In fact, even the most well planned app may not be used for its original purpose at all. I have apps that I use for bizarre single shot use or rare reasons.
Most of these reasons are not what it was intended.
From using extreme contradicting BPM or pitch, to drops most loops are not used as loops by me.
I reckon I am not alone.
How does this relate to HOOK?
I don'tknow. My A.D.D. Rx is wearing off from this am...............LOL
HOOK needs to be a tool for what PEOPLE WANT, not what the COMPANY WANTS.
Ease of use and access and compatibility will help do that.
I am in the car so typing quick ont he fly. Sorry typos

Don't drive in Brooklyn.
If Hook would have midi learn for the clips and Audiobus, this would be an instabuy. Like it is now makes no sense.
Interesting perspective.
I'm wondering, have you or you, @RustiK , imported your own clips into Launchpad? I feel like we should consolidate these threads about Launchpad (new update today, by the way), Blocs and Hook.
I really would like to launch audio clips of my own loops. What's the best way to do that? (Never tried Ableton, but I guess that would be the way to go....)
I liked Hook. I'm just not a DJ!
Modstep is amazing and vital however, I can't imagine how anyone could avoid using it, even if you don't include one MIDI note, it's still the most important tool in the box (for me).
How so?
I agree that Modstep is unlike any other tool in terms of quickly composing. It's like the iOS equivalent of a perfect mise-en-place.
But Oscar, how do you use it other than as a midi sequencer? Do you mean triggering external hardware?
I use it to control everything via ccs (whether modulated or momentary). Rather than quickly interact with 2-3 apps all together, I program the changes into Modstep. Use it for everything from fx changes/mods and mixer level tweaks to patterning automation and fine tuning adjustments when working with ethnic instruments. Tempo changes on scenes also go without saying.
Modstep's built in sampler is also one of the nicest to use, most practical, lightweight and most stable on the platform. Also frequently use the synth (although it'd be a lot more useful to me with a fine tune control).
Additionally, mapping the tempo nudge functions to foot controllers is wonderful for live work with other musicians or just for pulling and pushing expressively on the tempo. Unfortunately this only works with Modstep in the foreground, but here's hoping.. @Nerk_
Oh yeah, long fader rides, modulations and things like that don't always need to be placed so specifically so you can be a bit more flexible with activation than with notes (although I really wish there was a way to set clips to start immediately, rather than on the next barline).
True. Attempting to foist half finished concepts onto the app buying public has been the downfall of many apps. These days, once bitten twice shy, I save my credits until I see an app where the developer(s) have done their homework.
The most recent example, being RF-1. Lovely reverb, with lots of connectivity at version 1. Sure, it can be improved, like everything. But we're not being asked to trust in additions that never appear and left hanging.

I am a former DJ - in another lifetime - and I didn't like Hook.
Modstep intrigue me. Would you say that it is aimed more at real world instrument musicians such as yourself, than at dabblers like me? What I mean is, could the average punter have fun?
I don't know any dj that would like the cross fader to be located in another location than the decks, imo hook is not for djing
Definitely when combined with the right couple of AU's, and don't neglect the built in synth and sampler (and their effects sections!).
Certainly requires a little time investment to get fluent with it however (especially the habit of parameter modulation, not just MIDI notes) but then you're flying! Get some cool samples loaded up, input some notes and rhythm on synths and drum machines (the step sequencer is really quick and fun when you get the hang of it) and then start modulating parameters! Put effects on the master channel and modulate those! Module everything!!
^ like the sound of that^.... I never hear much about mod steps fx and modulation
Hmmm. I'll be looking into this one more seriously. Checking out those YouTube tutorials.
Hey oscar what iPad do you use? I have lots of issues (bugs) with my air 1. Latest release
Air2 and Mini2
Had no issues with either and can run quite a lot on both.
Standard retronyms app unfortunately, why I didn't buy it
Short answer: NOTHING
In more important news, Modstep has a synth! Thanks for pointing that out @OscarSouth
