Why isn't Infinite Looper recognized as the best MIDI sequencer for *iPhone* to date?
I've been overlooking it. It seems like the best way to sequence multiple apps on the iPhone right now.
It's not really a daw... but it the pickings are slim in this category. Thoughts?

I'm sure it's good but it's not something that's really resonated with me. I just redownloaded it to better understand why and it just feels more complicated than necessary. Sequencers are a funny thing and very subjective.
What do you use to sequence multiple IAA instruments on iOS (or hardware) at the same time?
It is by me, but then I've only had a phone that can really play things for a few days...
I only own an iPhone5s, so I find Infinite Looper (Aleph Looper) essential. The UI is not eye-catching like Auxy, but really well thought out, amazing how all the necessary features are laid out within a small screen estate.
I can use all the IAA synths I have on my phone, and I can play them with Core Midi apps like Fingertip MIDI and have the sequences recorded and edited, arrange the clips in anyway I want, swap the instruments, and record the audio and export MIDI files. And it's light in size (35MB).
If it's possible to import/swap the SoundFont library that would be mind-blowing, but I'm not sure if that's possible (not saying that what's already there isn't good, just saying it would be real cool feature).
Kind of like what Auxy should have been, me thinks.
I use Beatmaker 2. I haven't really delved into Infinite Looper on the small screen yet but Beatmaker has a pretty nice piano roll editor.
Can any of these iPhone apps both import midi files AND send them back out to various synths?
For me the difference between BM2, which is the stealthmonster DAW on iPhone, and IL which is a stealthmonster of its own kind (that is also universal), is that I use BM2 to finish stuff on the device, and I use IL iPhone to sequence hardware, which turns out be hilariously fun to sequence a big build from the phone, and ultra sweet on iPad, not to mention sequence Rotor on iPad.
I'd love to see a video of that.
I love IL. But to answer the OPs question directly I'd say:
Edit. Oh, just saw the iPhone bit. It is recognised as the best on iPhone isn't it?
I think there are some strong arguments for BM2 made in this thread. It just seems like so much app to use just as a sequencer.
Thanks for the support! I'm really glad folks are digging it; the feedback is a big motivator to get stuff done!
I'm trying keep the app from growing into a full-blown DAW; it makes no sense to me to try to go head-to-head with things like Logic. The goal is to keep it lightweight and nimble, so that you can capture ideas without getting bogged down in stuff that kills whatever groove you get going. If there's a spectrum, you've got drum machines on one end, and DAWs on the other -- I'm trying to hang out in the middle.
The next update should have MIDI import; there's already MIDI export, to hand stuff off to a desktop DAW. You'll also be able to pull in loops from other projects, and I've got a couple of things up my sleeve that I don't think anyone will expect. For the December/January time frame, my plan is to beat on the UI and make it a little less ugly.
Amen Bro! You've done a great job fighting off the bloat while adding just what fits within the mission of the app.
@SecretBaseDesign MIDI import! No shit I was just about to ask about that. Thank you! That will allow me to take my ikaossilator loops, convert them to midi with Midimorphisis, put them in IL and send them right back out to other stuff.
Right up there for my developer of the year vote that we don't have.
Awesome!
Already a great app, to become greater without bloating. With an upcoming facelift, yeah!
@SecretBaseDesign Any chance of adding other time signatures, or just the ability to change the amount of steps in a bar per-project? Would buy in a heartbeat then. Just discovered the NTBYF app contains a demo version and I'm otherwise very impressed.
hows this working out in practice?
@kobamoto was one of those things where the idea was more exciting than the reality. You never quite get a perfect conversion, especially bad with chords, so you end up having to edit somewhere and then the process becomes tedious which is exactly the opposite reason I enjoy ikaossilator in the first place. Defeats the purpose.
Different time signatures is something that's on the horizon, but it probably won't happen until mid next year. I'm trying to focus on the big-ticket items that are of broad interest, and I'd bet that 95% of the music making public is happy with 4/4. This blocks out the folks who like waltzes, and anything by Tool or Rush... just have to prioritize things, and get the more common stuff first.
This sounded pretty crazy to me too! Pitch to MIDI isn't perfect, and iKaossilator can generate tones that are really hard to analyze. Chords can be very difficult to extract correctly.
The development build of Infinite Looper has the code from MIDImorphosis built in -- so you'll be able to drive a synth from a guitar, and record directly into a loop. You can also use the step insert mode of the piano roll, and get a transcription that way (play slow and clean, and the step insert will keep the timing locked down). I've tweaked the algorithm, so the pitch detection is a little bit more accurate, and a little bit faster now.
There will be a bundle, so that anyone who purchased MIDImorphosis can add Infinite Looper at reduced cost.
I like how you're hanging.
Don't take that the wrong way, please. Not that there's anything wrong with it!
@SecretBaseDesign no worries! Not your problem Korg has neglected to care for their most important piece of tech imo. keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to the updates in the future
@SecretBaseDesign If I could add another thing to the wish list it'd be to be able to re-quantize a clip after the fact.
You can do this now -- on the piano roll, open up the "hamburger" button on the right, toggle to the quantize tab, and hit "quantize all" -- everything will get snapped to whatever quantization you have enabled. Or, you can select a subset of notes with the magic wand, and quantize those...
Whoa! Awesome! Sorry. I missed that, was trying to push quantize out on the clip-grid, but yeah, it makes sense to have it in the piano roll. This app is coming to really nicely I have say, and with all its features it actually means it replaces (the need for) quite a few other apps!
@SecretBaseDesign so the only thing I'm missing now is that you'd include the functionality from DoubleDecker so I could use my Logitech keyboard with my IPP.

I often find myself thinking it is obsolete when making music, and if anything, in the way (as I can't use it) but then I realised if anyone would know how to fix that it'd be you.
Did know this once, but had forgotten about it. Thanks for the brush up.
Heh! There's an app for that! You can have Sidecar and Infinite Looper both in the foreground -- they both support the iPad Pro split screen thing, and adjust size appropriately. Sidecar does the keyboard translation trick that's in Double Decker, and you can have that forward MIDI to Infinite Looper.
But I might just bake the keyboard handling code into the next release of Infinite Looper, so you can do it all without Sidecar....
This just confirms what I've often thought: Patrick is the best on iOS!!! (I think I have a dev-crush).
I like writing stuff in 3, 5, 7 and 11, so I'll be pleased when you add that feature. In the meantime I bought it at full price, and I'm glad I did - great app.
Is there an undo functionality planned so that you can undo the last pass? It might be in there but I seem to have missed it.
Is there a way for the app to remember that I want the internal instruments disabled when I open a project? I'm using it to control a Nord Drum through an iConnectivity interface, which works well, but the internal sounds come back each time I reopen the project.
