  • Thank you. Done. In first gear, clutch biting, red line on the rev counter....waiting for the chequered flag. :)

Thank you. Been waiting for this for a little while.

  • This looks like it will be great, I've longed for something as quick and intuitive to use in Auria for drums.

This. If it was like Apple's drummer, it will be a game changer.

    All this.

  • I like the idea, but not a huge fan of PositiveGrid. It's baffling that there still isn't a truely great drum app.

  • i'm always wary of music apps featuring high quality photography within them, but I will withhold judgement.

  • When it's out, and if it match the expectations, only a proper pitch correction tool (hello, Melodyne?) will be missing from the iOS audio ecosystem.

I think with this and drum session coming out that will change. However, after being suckered into another IAP yesterday (new bass pedals) in bias fx and realizing that the thing I thought I liked about it isn't what I thought, as well as the fact that their many other projects seem to have left bias fx without an iPhone version, I'm staying away from PG. Too many things going on at once with them instead of finishing something all the way. Just my opinion and experience, others may have a different experience and that's cool.

As for beta testing, not for me. I beta tested final touch and auria pro, and then realized I don't enjoy beta testing nor do I do a good job at it.

I think they have a lot going on as well. Maybe too much. Too many products? Unless, they have grown their staff. I don't know how large of a company they are, but if they have the staff to handle all the different avenues they are going in, then fine. It seemed a year ago, that they were neglecting apps and coming out with new hardware and apps and so on.

I love Bias FX and amps. And that I can download presets. Though, almost all of them need a bit of tweaking. I don't think their intention was to ever have an iphone version of Bias FX for whatever reason.

I was Beta testing their AI drum app, and I found, that I am not a good beta tester either, and I kinda suck at it, and don't care for it either. Even though it was in its infant stage when I was testing it, I wasn't impressed with the base app. Hopefully it will get better with continued testing.

I've been excited about Derek's drum app since he announced it a year or so ago. It sounds like it will be quite the app. He did compare it a bit to EZ drummer I believe a while back. So, I am hopeful that it will make a drummer out of me yet, lol.... Like SoundPrisim and ThumbJam have made me a keyboard player, well sorta. ;)

  • Yup, Derek's app is the one I am wIting for as well. The examples of work done with it I have heard so far were really good. Looking forward to learning more about the actual process for building tracks.

  • Hmm. Definitely interested in this, and agree that we're still looking for a great drum app that either generates drum tracks or allows for programming of acoustic drums in a more intuitive way. My concern about this one is that for all the talk about "A.I.", the emphasis on their factory drum tracks and cloud content will just steer you towards arranging pre-canned tracks. If that's the case, this becomes kind of like a glorified version of the Nimbuzz app.

Positive Grid is an interesting company. I appreciate that they are dreamers, and they've proven their programming chops with some of their original work on JamUp XT and (some would argue) the various BIAS products. But they absolutely have too much "stuff" to manage. The iOS software is just the half of it - they got pretty heavy into guitar hardware with Bias Head and the new Distortion pedal that imports pedal programs (and I think costs about $300).

Their apps are usually good, but can be unstable, in part because they have too much on their plate to stay on top of the various iOS updates, etc. across the whole lineup. The fact that they offer a bunch of IAP's that (cumulatively) can become pricey doesn't bother me, but it did bother me that the second you pay for something, it seems to be replaced or succeeded by something new that then begs you to integrate 3 of their apps together, instead of just working on one app/ecosystem and developing features.

Cool company, cool idea - will approach with equal parts interest and skepticism.

  • Then you have Session Drummer coming out also. Should be interesting.

I think you mean Drum Session from Derek Buddemeyer. That is the one which is coming out this month and is supposed to be an EZ drummer type app or similar.

  • How does Drum session compare to Rock Drum Machine's virtual drummer?

We do not know yet as it will not be released until later this month but it should be much easier to customize . There are some good audio examples over on his Facebook and sound cloud though. On another note it may be more expensive but hopefully worth it. Time will tell.

  • I remember Derek saying somewhere in the $40.00 range, but that was close to a year ago.

    Right thanks

IMHO, EZdrummer is very realistic, and better than anything in iOS presently. If any of these new DMs are comparable, that would be something.

But if anything, the PG app is curious. We all know the outfit, and this is a bit of a departure from their present lineup.
