How to drive Gadget Glasgo from drum Jam?
Not finding love with external midi control of gadget. Any idea why?
Comments
Have you turned on the advanced midi input under settings ?
If so then when selecting the MIDI input to use I have found that I have to use Gadget (Virtual Port) as the input and not the sending app (this is true for ModStep at least).....for physical midi you select the midi device.
Also make sure your sending app is set to send to gadget.
Advanced is on, where is gadget virtual port, I am not seeing that?
In the midi setup for the channel, bottom left button underneat the fader, this will bring up the MIDI Input window, where you can select the specific device and channel to receive from, it will by default be set to All ins, and All channels, so should work, but try selecting the specific device and channel.
While you have the midi device list open, you can see which ones are receiving midi, the little light to left will light when midi is received (make sure the one you are trying to check is not highlighted otherwise you will not see it)
Ok I found it but still no sound out of Glasgo.
Are you able to get sound out of any other gadget?
when you are sending midi from DrumJam, is the light next to any of the midi inputs flashing ? (don't forget to move the highlight when checking as mentioned above.)
Does glasgow produce sound when playing its keys
Step poly to Phoenix works,
I've just set it up:
Make sure Quantize is off. Set as the other pics show. Works fine.
Under midi sync in gadget nothing is highlighted.
If I turn link off I can set internal external or auto.
Ahh that is because Gadget will either use link or midi clock, not both. Are you trying to use sync with DrumJam at all ? or just playing direct, i'm not sure this would affect whether you get sound though.
Doh! Not Glasgow it is Gladstone drums that is not working
Do I have to have drums on channel ten?
Always a good idea
So you guys can drive Gladstone from Drumjam?
LOL, I did wonder why you were trying to play a melodic instrument with a drum sequencer LOL.
Something to bear in mind is that Gladstone does not use GM Drum notes....they start at C and go up in semitones, you may need to do some setup in DrumJam to get it sending the right notes....
Have you confirmed that the MIDI light flashes yet....If that isn't flashing then notes or the particular gadget will make no difference.
MIDI lights where?
In the list of MIDI inputs, there is a little light just to the left of each input, this will flash when it is receiving MIDI.....you will only see the light though if the input you are interested in is NOT highlighted, so select something else in the list when testing, if the light flashes you know that DrumJam is sending and Gadget is receiving. You can then work from there to track down the issue.
DrumJam only sends midi when using the pads live, so you can't check the lights in Gadget at the same time.
And you don't need to turn off respect quantize, that is actually a midi input option for DJ.
Hopelessly lost it seems.
Also, make sure background audio is enabled in Gadget's settings under the Settings app.
Does DrumJam use GM drum mapping for the notes ? Because Gladstone does not, assuming it midi is being transmitted and received OK, i guess this is the most likely cause.
DrumJam has an option to use GM mapping or just a linear mapping in the midi prefs, although it doesn't let you specify where the notes start in the latter case (they start at 36).
@sonosaurus Im not sure how Gadget counts its notes, but Gladstone goes linear from C2....
@Tritonman Load a melodic instrument, record some midi from Drum Jam, then see what notes are coming through.
Since C2 == 36, sounds like a good match if you turn off GM mapping in DJ.
Yeah I wondered too, but hey we all try bizarre things
