Korg Odyssey - Gadget version (Lexington) versus standalone ?
At first I was a bit peeved that the arpeggiator stuff in the standalone Odyssey isn't available in Lexington, but I'm now wondering if perhaps there's more opportunity for perhaps equally interesting parameter changes inside Gadget itself ?
I know the Gadget arp can't do the pitch steps that the standalone can and the parameters controlled by the arp section stuff too, but can things be routed in Lexington and automated in Gadget's piano roll, creating all sorts of 'motions' ?
I could be missing something here regarding the arp section, so I thought I'd enquire as to what others think .

Frankly, the Gadget is better for my use on sound quality.
Stand alone has all the goodies and parameters, yet the sound couldn't keep up side by side with Animoog this morning when doing a live track.
Just me though.
No meat on the bones stand alone for me.
Gadget is great though mixed with other gadgets.
Glad to say that I disagree with you on this one.
WHat kind of stuff of you playing with it?
More lead or chords, or bass?
It could have been the patches frequencies cancelling some things out.
I will try and see again.
Well, It is blowing the fucking doors of here.
Massively awesome here too!
Pretty freaking powerful over here in New York also. Playing the stand alone controlled from xynthesizer leaving my fingers in tweaker heaven! SwwweeeeeeTTT!
well, you can at least automate every parameter if you wanted, instead of being limited to just three of them.
the arp modes (rdm, three, even, odd) are a huge omission, hopefully they'll add those to the Gadget arp at some point. [EDIT: sorry, that doesn't even make sense. no way they could do that unless the Gadget arp were "programmable" like it is here.]
i was going to say that not being able to set semitone/octave/gate isn't that big of a deal, but it really isn't something that you can do in Gadget, even though it has its own sequencer. it's just not possible, same problem as with the arp modes.
one really cool thing about the standalone arp is the Glide parameter for variable smoothing between steps. can't do this in Gadget either, the best you can do is 64th-note resolution. i really wish that you could draw smooth "ramp/line" automation in Gadget.
it's pretty unfortunate that they left out the arp/seq in Lexington (though i guess you could argue that the original Odyssey didn't have this function either), they could have disabled the Gadget arp on it like they did with London, etc... you can do so many cool things with the standalone arp that it's a bit disappointing to not have it in Lexington.
@jbuonacc
Yes, I was thinking along similiar lines on this one. Unfortunately a fair bit of interesting stuff from the standalone isn't available in Lexington. On the other hand, there's probably some cool things that you can do exclusively in Gadget too.
I'm happy with what Korg have done for the most part. It's a way better Gadget version than iM1.
The only real downside is the lack of sound transfer from the main app to the gadget app and the lack of any proper sound save without use of another computer (this seems to be pretty standard these days )
I can live with the Gadget arp, but it'd be good if they update the app so user presets can be transferred.
Lexington turns Gadget into a proper thing though, it's better than any of the existing synths so for that alone it's a step forward, and pushed me back into using Gadget for tune building.
Is it me or did I miss something. When I go to Korg Gadget in-app purchase and choose Lexington I will be directed to the Odyssei app-store page. Does this mean when purchasing the full Odyssei you get Lexington for free, or what's happening here. Unclear. Please help me out.
Yes you get the Gadget version with purchase of the full app
Thx for clearing that up
Even if you could save the standalone user presets and open them in Gadget, if there was any Arp stuff (note or parameters) involved, then they won't be the same anyway (as I understand it)
I think I may have been inarticulate in properly voicing my feelings on the stand alone versus the Gadget.
My opinion is being distorted by the user interface. I have a hole in my retina and some other non related vision issues currently. Perhaps, my opinion is contaminated with my personal challenges in viewing and using the knobs and sliders. This may have tainted my overall feeling.
Hence, I love the Lexington Gadget.
Looks like a bit of transference on my part.
You all are probably 100% right, and my original post wrong or inaccurate.
I would like to see a Model15 zoom option for those of us visually challenged.
Hope the surgery fixes this shit already.
Don't forget the 3 finger double tap for zoom built into iOS, it may help a bit......
And good luck with the surgery when you have it
Yeah it is a shame, I'm using the arp to control all sorts of automation, though maybe some of this cane be done in Gadget
They've just released an update, but can't see any improvements to the preset sharing.
'It does not supported' - According to Korg's FAQ
Needs to be supported it is.
Oh dear, looks like I'm gonna have to get drunk again....
Lemme explain. I have an iPad 4 and an iPhone 6. I was gutted that model 15 was only available to me on my phone, but while happy in my cups last week i pulled the trigger on the phone.
No regrets. None. As I'm more a preset than a programme guy, I've been delighted with 15 and it fits into my 'studio' perfectly.
On Gadget, though, it's driving me nuts not having ALLbthe gadgets on my iPad and I find that gadget devours iPhone battery. Mmmmmm
Barman, a double Jameson's please!
To the Korg User .Net you must go, request it you must
Already posted this in one of the other threads but hey...there is a full PDF manual on there too.
