Other iOS Synths That Pulse Like ARP ODDYSSEi?
One of the things I find exciting about ARP ODDYSSEi is that you can use the arpeggiator to modulate the parameters of 3 sliders in the app like VCF Cutoff, VCF Resonance, ADSR, Distortion, Phaser, Unison Detune, etc--and assign them to a patch. (Unfortunately this isn't in Lexington)
It's like getting a little bit of what you can do in hardcore PC synths like Massive, Signal, Iris2, etc. The patches don't just arpeggiate--they pulse in very complicated and musical ways.
What other iOS synths have this kind of functionality?
Comments
The ability to do that in Gadget with Lexington is still there, you just have to use a different vehicle to achieve it. Albeit one that requires a little more time and determination, but you can modulate anything in Gadget.
Not quite the same, but TF7's Chaos Arpeggiator can do some amazing things.
Algorithms!
That's true but I feel Gadget could use the 'glide' paramter present in the arp to make the values smoothly interpolate from one step to the next to avoid 'steppy' value changes when needed.
Oops, missed your question entirely. There are a whole lot of other synths on iOS that have similar modulation options; Model 15, Thor, iSEM.
Totally agree @Samu
And let's be clear, it's WAY easier to setup that kind of modulation in the standalone. Gadget could benefit greatly from some enhanced drawing tools in the modulation window for certain.
iMS-20 has a similar sequencer that is present in ODYSSEI but doesn't work as an arpeggiator.
Gadget's sequencer can automate everything and when used with 1-bar pattern it's almost the same.
If automation of other synths is needed ModSTEP does a pretty good job.
Agreed, hopefully those changes will come soon to make Gadget even better.
I mean we got the IFX button present all the time when editing a sequence now so Korg apparently scans their Gadget forum from time to time
Haha.....that button is worth its weight in gold for extended Gadget immersions. Up next...transport controls when an instrument is in full screen view..?
Good'uns. Also, Arctic Synth and iMS-20. Also also, while not always as easily to exact, any synth with robust LFO routing—including the ability to route an LFO and/or an Envelope to another LFO—can do stuff in the same vein. Particularly if you can sync the LFO to clock cough Eden cough.
Yes please!!! And playhead indicator.
Yes and 'advanced' step-recording/editing please as this would make precision automation super easy.
Just enable recording and add a few buttons to advance to next/previous 'step'(set by grid-resolution) with hold/tie and rest options for next note(s). All adjusted controllers would be 'stamped' on the current step.
(This idea is ventilated to Korg over at the Korg Forums so I've still got some hope it will be reality some day).
I would love to see 'smooth/stepped' options for the automation for 'smoother' automation, just need to draw a value every 4th or 16th note and let the app do the interpolation when 'smooth' is enabled and do the 'steppy' version when smooth is off. I mean this is present when doing 'motion sequencing' on the Electribes.
(This is one feature I love in the ODYSSEi arpeggiator).
Even though ODYSSEi is super addition to Gadget I'm still waiting for the 'iWavestation' with user-sampling/re-sampling
Another 'Gadget' features I would love see is to be able to export a scene# and track# for quick and easy re-sampling. (All audio exported to iTunes is directly available to Bibao and AbuDhabi without need to hook up the computer, sadly 'rename' and 'export' is missing of the already exported audio to iTunes without using a computer arghhh).
And being the avid promoter of iCloudDrive/Document Picker I truly hope Gadget will get Import/Export using them soon.(Open In... would be a super way to avoid using DropBox or AudioCopy.app for exports outside Gadget).
Now where's my 15" iPad UltraPro+
Tera Synth by Virsyn - has multi point envelopes and plenty of LFOs to modulate almost anything.
Twin 2 in Auria Pro - modulation monster!
Or Genome and I know Infinite Looper may automate most things now as well.
I know I used it on my phone and automated a few basic parameters.
Genome I can automate anything like Modstep for my uses anyway.
Ahhhh the Wavestation....My dream synth as a teenager. I have the desktop VST version, and although it's archaic to operate in that venue it's still one of the most used plugins I've got. Having a touchscreen version in Gadget would keep the dream alive.
Animoog. You modulate the path origin with an lfo, modulate the lfo with other stuff, etc. insert "basic silence" if necessary. Pretty awesome pulsation. I've started a little collection of animoog "arpish" presets
Very nice LFO- based pulsing in Animoog.
Cyclop by Sugar Bytes.
Thor is a modulation monster when you work out how to use the mod matrix
https://www.reasonexperts.com/thor-modulation-bus-matrix-part-1.html
Thanks everybody. Will definitely be exploring this on the synths I own, like Animoog. I'm not using Auria so much these days, so I forget about Twin 2, which of course has so many modulation.
Still, I would love it if Output would make one of their synths like Signal or Exhale for the iPad. The user interface is so easy, picking waveforms like these and popping them into your presets
Or polyrhythms
You can get these very interesting effects in seconds. I'm going to have to educate myself to see what I can make happen on the iPad.
The LFOs in ivcs3 can do similar, not as much controllable sequence but various waves to choose to oscillate any parameter and is link syncable LFo too
Fab Filter Twin 2: you can place unlimited sequential modulators (will, limited by your CPU) targeting any parameter. Now that it has a proper controller inside Auria, I can truly say no other iOS compares to it (on the Desktop, we have Massive with the same amount of flexibility and with one more oscillator). Besides Twin 2, I'd say Model 15 and perhaps Thor.
