Gadget, Finger Fiddle & ToneStack (VIDEO)

Channeling my inner Sigur Rós apparently with this early morning jam using Finger Fiddle as a sort of makeshift bowed electric guitar. I've been using FF a lot lately for stuff like this. By itself the included instruments are decent, but not great. Playing it can be an awful lot of fun though. And I am finding that when you run it through a variety of effects you can really get some interesting results. In this video it's going through ToneStack with an absurd amount of distortion, compression and reverb. Attached below is the effects chain in ToneStack. That new delay they just added (The Duplicator) is pretty awesome at pushing the stereo image into the superwide galaxy. Moving on, I thought some of you might be interested in this usage of FingerFiddle and may want to revisit it as something other than an orchestral instrument. Thanks for watching B)

  • Thanks for sharing this, it sounds awesome, and I was transfixed watching it :)
I wish my iPad Mini 2 was able to run all that with no glitching, i'm not jealous at all, Honest :)

  • @brice Really good stuff. And instructive; really like the video set up. Clean and simple. Also encouraging as regards TS which I have bought the recent upgrade for despite not being a guitarist....

  • One of the best ipad music videos i've seen. Love it! Thank you. Great stuff

  • Aye, good one. Enjoyed that...

  • Very nice ambient rock. Would be even better with some faraway drums.

  • @brice BEAUTIFUL! loved it. i've had an urge the past few months to make some music in this style - more ambient vibe stuff... been floundering a bit, but found this highly inspirational - so many thanks! great stuff

  • Thanks guys! Was definitely a fun endeavor for the AM hours.

I'm with you. That's the firs thing I added after posting this. Though they currently sound like they are in a Canyon; gonna bring 'em back a bit closer.

Thanks Andy. Haha, I know the struggle. My previous iPad used to beg me to stop doing what I was doing. And while I can definitely run a lot more stuff on this one it still gets flustered and protests from time to time. This experiment was on the brink of some glitches and stutters for certain! But those dropouts are charming to me.

Thanks Johnny. I'm not a guitarist either but I'm finding all sorts of uses for TS. Everything from Boards of Canada-esque glow, tape machine wow and flutter sort of stuff. To dirtying up breakbeats, to all out destruction. And it's really awesome that you can map everything to MIDI CC's. All sorts of mayhem when MIDI LFO's jumps into the picture. Also that Duplicator delay fills a huge void in my workflow. Definitely check that one out.

  • Wow! Nice work. Like it a lot. Inspires me to try my hand with Finger Fiddle.

  • This was excellent! Thanks for sharing it with us. Beautiful post-rock inspiration.
