Syncing loopy with funkbox
I am having trouble syncing these two apps. Either funkbox will only play the first beat or the tempo is really fast. Any suggestions on how the midi ins and outs should go?
Comments
I've done it multiple times so it's definitely possible.
I'm such a noob at this!
You can see this in action here - Funkbox waits until Loopy's clock is started by tapping out the tempo in Loopy.
(Oh, and my iPhone defaulted me to another Twitter account. Whoops!)
Did you turn on external sync in Funkbox?
It's definitely a little weird. Funkbox and loopy both have pretty extensive midi controls so I can see how the opportunity for error is high!
I can get it to work if I set yo funkbox midi on external or internal and select loopy clock in from routing / coremidi inputs.
Then I select funkbox from loops clock outputs.
Now when I have set up a tempo in loopy and press play or record funkbox starts and is in synch with loopy.
Changing funkbox MIDI from internal to external does not appear to make any difference to the functionality.
More playing around required as I have only just managed to get this working this evening after trying all day.
Making a video right now. Gimme a sec.
More investigation reviews that if funkbox had external midi on the the loops will sync if its off all sorts of odd things happen when you go back to listen to the loop in loopy. Seems to randomly add gaps about half way round the loop.
The key appears to be selecting loopy in funkbox routing/ core midi inputs and funkbox in loopy midi clock outputs.
I'm a happy little looper tonight
Only slight problem would be going the other way and trying to get Funkbox to trigger Loopy to start and stop as I don't think Funkbox sends any MIDI data when the start button is pressed.
Here's the video. Sorry, still having a cold.
Thanx that's a lot more simple and stable than I was able to explain or manage.
PS everyone in my house has a stinker of a cold so you have my sympathies.
I'd like to record a nice first loop into Loopy with Funkbox, but then stop it playing, configure a second pattern to play and then record that into Loopy as another loop.
But when I switch the clock sync in Funkbox back to Int in order to stop it playing so that I can configure the new pattern, it doesn't start up again when I change the clock sync back to Ext.
What I'm basically saying is that I'd like to turn the drum beat on and off by using the clock sync control, but switching to Ext and hearing the drum sounds seems to be a one-time only thing. It's like it's waiting for me to prompt it from Loopy again even though the clock's already running.
I could just leave the beat in Funkbox running, of course, but then it's always playing over what I'm doing in Loopy. I could also not sync the clock and hit start and stop in Funkbox at the exact right time to record new loops, but that's kinda fiddly.
I'm suggest taking this to Art (http://syntheticbits.com/funkbox.html), Michael.
In case you're interested:
The explanation is that with MIDI syncing, in order to start the clock running, you need to receive a "MIDI Start" message. Loopy sends that when it's started and when it's unpaused, but not continually while it's running, otherwise connected devices would be constantly restarting.
What you're seeing in Funkbox may be a design decision – in which case, there's not much that can be done aside from stopping and restarting Loopy's clock – but it sounds like Funkbox is disabling (as opposed to just disconnecting internally) the MIDI clock receiver when switched to internal. Then when switched back to external, the MIDI clock receiver is reset and waiting to receive a "Start" message, which it won't get, cos Loopy's clock is already running.
I made and saved an empty pattern in funkbox last night to handle this exact situation. Works a treat.
That's a great solution
Syrupcore, you genius! Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones!
Thank you!!!
