Korg Gadget Gladstone Question

How do I set it where the snare drum has a nice reverb sound like for a nice ballad song, but where the Kick does not get affected by the reverb. I can't figure it out and no matter what I do, the kick gets effected.

I noticed on one of the Nanostudio youtube demos that this is possible and wondered if any of you out there know how to do this in Gadget. Thanks in advance.

  • Use the AMB Send to control how much of each pad gets sent to the ambient effect, so drop the AMB send on the Kick pad. :)

  • Thanks man. It actually didn't work. No matter which way I set the ambience or send knobs the kick got effected by the reverb set on the track. I'm thinking that it may not be possible in Gadget.

  • Use two Gladstones, one with ambience turned up and one with it turned down :)

  • Thanks Samu. This means, i would have to record the snare by itself in the other Gladstone track right? So this no other way? As you can see it was hard enough to record this really nice groove since i'm not a drummer. But might have to figure how to do this. I might have to duplicate the track and erase the other notes, is that what you would suggest? Is there a better more efficient way. Thanks in advance.

  • Wait. When you say "reverb on the track", do you mean reverb on the track itself? If you add a reverb on the track, yes, it's going to affect everything. However, there is a reverb (referred to as AMB) within Gladstone. There is an overall ambience mix, plus individual ambient sends for each pad.

To do what you want, remove the reverb from the track itself, and use the internal Gladstone ambient controls.

If you really want to stick with the track reverb for some reason, then you will need to have a separate Gladstone for the kick as Samu says.

  • Not all samples in Gladstone are 'super dry'(as in no reverb at all).

  • Thanks guys, i duplicated the track and removed all the other notes from the track except the snare. This allowed me to add an insert reverb effect for the snare track only which sounded really nice! I even duplicated one more time and changed the kit so that now the snare was a rim hit. Pretty cool! And the original gladstone track has the kick and high hats all by themselves with no reverb, and was able to do the ambience thing which really is awesome! I really hope though that we get bus routing someday in Gadget, that would solve all this duplicating thing.

  • I don't think we'll see that kind of 'buss routing' in Gadget(ie. each pad in a Gadget gets it's own mixer channel).
It's already easy enough to add additional Gadgets on an 'as needed' basis.

  • I always separate drumhits in gadget because i mix outside it and i need to be able to modify volumes, fx, panning etc.
