IPad Air 2: Issues Lately Music Apps?

Seems like since IOS 10, my Air2 is a bit off. Very inconsistent.

I am not sure if it is my IPad as much as some apps need updating others need the Audiobus SDK updated or what?

One biggie lately, is losing my Audiobus chain connection when swapping in and out effects.

Things just never seem to go smooth for an entire session anymore. I always have 1 app or configuration that makes things difficult.

Are any of you having similar IPAD Air 2 issues lately?

Which apps specifically are you having problems with? Because the answer to your question if anyone has some sort of problem with some apps is 'yes'. Doesn't help you much though.

  • Can't say I've had any more issues with iOS 10 with apps. I can say I've had a lot less issues than i did back in the iOS 8 days on my Air 2

Not really but to be honest i haven't used Audiobus in a long time. IAA and AU are performing alright, I,ve been using beta versions of iOS 10 without problems. probably the most stable iOS release ever. (not really what you asked for but Audiobus its based on IAA so it might still be useful to know I'm not having issues)

might be that Audiobus needs a minor compatibility update or something like that but they are busy with the new version to be released soon? the last update was just when iOS 10 was released, we've had like 3 minor versions and a bigger one since then.

Off the top of my head:

    Holderness Stereoizer

I think also Apefilter this am.

Um, the only thing I know is that the biggest issue is changing effect or input apps with an effect app in place.

I can not say change the effect app from one to another. When I do, I lose audio and triggers the input app to have an "error".

I have it happen with BLOCS wave in the input and I attempt use effect apps. Sometimes it works, it is just changing them or leaving that app and attempting to return.

    It is odd and inconsistent.

I tried to open Turnado and got nothing today as well.

I have deleted and reinstalled all of these apps as well.

I know this am I had Audioshare in input, and put Apefilter in Output and it happened.

NOTE: I ALSO HAD ANIMOOG (input1) LAUNCHPAD (input2) and Loopy in ALL OUTPUTS.

Hmmmm.....I do use Loopy in the Output slots 75% of the time. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything. I do know that it seems eerily similar to the Soundprism issue actually.

I also have had some apps since IOS 10 not respond or some open in Audiobus Remote. Glitch Breaks off the top of my head on this one.

I will attempt to replicate and video the instance tonight or tomorrow am and send it over to you via email.

For those who say they "I don't use Audiobus"...........I think that is disrespectful and does not need to be so "in your face". That is just me.

  • So, I tried something at lunch.

    Patterning BlocWave Animoog Genome (inputs)

Apefilter Buttercrush (swapped out each of them to put in a different effect apps of Chrystalline and ApeDelay)

    Loopy all Output slots.

50% of the time, while switching out one effect for another and either loud squelching, disconnection, or error message.

I WAS RUNNING ALL APPS AT THE TIME

    1 BLOCK only
1 Bar in genome playing Animoog
    Patterning playing only 2 sounds

I tried to film it but couldn't do it by myself, it looked like some IOS snuff film gone wrong due to the decorative health and science items in my study.

    Hi,

What is the point of using Genome in audibus if it is a midi sequencer? No sound comes out of it or I miss something?

    Thanks for the advice!

    It is a MIDI sequencer.
It also has a drum synth and basic module analog synth (complete programmable from scratch)

I use Genome in Audiobus for convenience. Easier switching in and out of the app inside Audiobus. ALSO and most important. Do you have Audiobus remote?

It is brilliant for apps like this, you control the app from a second device. App needs to be in Audiobus.

I use Genome like others use MODSTEP.

I also like Infinite Looper that is awesome as well.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I use it to play Animoog in this scenario in addition to my MIDI keyboard.

Sorry if you meant that answer literally

  • Ahhh you mean you can access to it just click on the small label of audiobus! The trick of using remote looks also like a good idea.

Even though, i normally simply midi learn the clips and play/stop button from Genome to my keyboard pads so I can trigger them remotely.

  • Had to delete & reinstall all Amazing Noises apps after the last os update, they ceased to load & would just 'hang' on the title page for an age before quitting back to the home screen.
Alas, disfunctional apps chained in Audiobus is still common, seems to be dependant on which ones you're attempting to combine.

I've come to the conclusion that this process is the iOS equivalent of pulling an audio cable on a live feed, inadvisable & risky. Easily done however, in the excitement of the moment & I'm still regularly doing it several years on. At least press stop prior to attempting a switch.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    This is a complex issue.

I feel that Apple, Apps, Developers, all have varying degrees of relevance in some of my issues.

Some apps behave better with others, some just make havoc, some haven't updated in a half a century like Alchemy or Glitch the effect app and have never worked better.

I am just wanting to drill down on this device at least.

I may actually test out my Air1 and see how it responds as well.

It is time for some standardization of some sort with this stuff. Apple needs to stop updating for like 2 years ! LOL

  • Yup, no fault of any one particular party. The combined divided efforts of devs & apple have enabled wonders, whilst simultaneously creating some inevitable frustrations for the enduser but all things considered, just recall just how different things were 10 years ago.
Didn't mean to diss on AB before, it was a godsent game changer to sound making on iOS when it arrived & I still use it daily.

  • Most of the issues Rustik has mentioned above (errors, removing and adding apps) are triggered by very hard to explain IAA issues (and the way Audiobus 2 works). We're fixing many (and maybe all) of them with Audiobus 3.

I know this might not help as an immediate solution, but at least I can say that we're working on it or that we've solved this with our new product. We're getting closer to launch, even after encountering a nasty bug that has cost us another few weeks to fix. Sadly I don't have a launch date for you guys yet, other than 'soon'.

Thank you for your honesty and candor regarding this matter.

We look forward that release immensely.

Same here... I have to admit that I'm wondering what will AB3 introduce to make it useful again on my side. AB has been a revolution and has permitted me to do crazy things before IAA and AU got implemented/stabilized, but now...
