Using Animoog as a midi controller?

Anyone use the midi out with Animoog? Is a possible to map the x and y position of the keyboard to midi cc outs?

Example: is it possible to slide your finger vertically alng a key and at the same time open the filter on e.g. arturia's imini or a gadget synth?

If not, would you recommend an alternative app with a similar style keyboard? The keyboard on Nave looks like it might have a similar playing experience to Animoog, but I'm a little put off by the fact it hasn't been updated in over a year.

  • Yes, if the target synth supports midi mapping to controls you should be able to set it up. I used sunrizer in my example.

Set up animoog so it looks like this, which is pretty much the default.

Make sure send channel pressure and poly pressure is green, turn down the volume on the right next to the keyboard. Then load sunrizer, then you go back to animoog if the midi out selection box doesn't show sunrizer just touch it and it should pop up.

Then when you go back to sunrizer hit the midi--learn button along the top, all the knobs and sliders you can map will have a black box around them. Touch the control you want to map and then go back the animoog, hit a key and slide your finger up, it should be mapped, mine says 208 when its mapped.

After that just hit the midi learn button again in sunrizer and start playing.

  • Got it working; thank you!

  • No problem, we live in exciting times, look out for apps, updates to synths on the desktop/lappies and controllers that support mpe, will standardise all this stuff. Only a few things at the moment, animoog has mpe input support, can't wait for it to get output support too, think the roli keyboard app has input support too. If ipads ever get force touch then I will be in heaven, so long as apps use it.
